Not sure if this is the best forum for this question but here goes.

I have airdrop set to receive from contacts on both my mac and iphone. Both are obviously signed with the same Apple ID, when I try to airdrop something from my mac it doesn't show my iPhone unless I unlock it. There's no mention of this anywhere on Apple's documentation etc

Is this expected behavior because it kind of moots the point of this feature lol. Having to reach my phone, unlock it, put it down then do the whole dance?

And yes, my "Card" shows up on Contacts on both Mac and iPhone.

If I unlock the phone it shows as this on mac's airdrop:

Doesn't even show an image?

Even if both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID, AirDrop still treats every transfer as a potential security or privacy concern, and it requires you to actively accept the transfer. There is no workaround.

When I unlocked the phone and tested it it just instantly sent it. I didn't have to accept anything.

So if your phone is locked, it doesnt show on your mac at all?

Also weird how it doesn't show my profile picture?

It just needs to be unlocked to transfer. If it’s locked, it won't appear. Mine also doesn't show a profile picture, just a generic image of an iPhone.
