My parents have built-in speakers in every room of the house that are connected to a receiver. The receiver has one of those old iPod docks, which is, of course, redundant now. I want to set something up that would allow them to stream music from their phones over the house wifi to the speakers, via the receiver.

Any suggestions on how to do this? I'd prefer to use Airplay 2 if possible.

I haven't seen many airplay2 receivers yet. But I suspect they will be more abundant after the holidays.

But, A 30 pin Bluetooth receiver (if this is a 30 pin dock) will let them stream music to their current setup without any fuss and little cost. I use one made by Samson on an old Bose sound dock and it works great. Might get them by for a while.

Buy a used Airport Express (the one that looks like a white mini Apple TV and has 2 Ethernet ports) to use as an AirPlay 2 streaming device to connect to their existing receiver.

Are you speaking of like a 5.1 or 7.2 reciever? Those do exist, I think most commonly from Denon.

Great idea! I have the Gen 1 of Airport Express and it worked, but it doesn't support airplay 2, so it's not as robust as is should be. It will do the trick for now, but I'm going to try to find a Gen 2 version.

Yes, use the previous generation if you don’t need Airplay 2.
