Apple's AirPods Max 2 have hit $399.00 on Amazon, down from $549.00. This sale is available in all five colors and it's a massive discount on the brand new headphones, coming in $100 under the previous all-time low price.

Good discount. If it was priced at this range, it would have been sold in much better numbers. Not going to buy one as I don't like over the head earphones.

Cans that fit over and cover your ears vs open headphones that have foam or silicon pads and rest on your years or buds that fit inside your ears.

I know what on-ear headphones are. I know what over-the-ear headphones are. I also know all the various types of earphones (on-ear, in-ear, bone conduction, etc).

But I still don't know what "over the head earphones" are.

I have a gen1 lightning model.

Even $399 is still a meaningful sum.

But google AI search answer thing says ANC is 1.5x better. Not sure if that means 150% better than gen 1 or means 50% better (probably 50%).

I wonder if getting AirPods Pro 3 is a better buy for airplane usage.

Right now I've used APMg1 and APPg2 for airplane usage with a slight edge going, ironically, to the APPg2 for ANC.

Temped but still not enough to get me to upgrade. Honestly its more of a lack of features issue at this price. For this price point the APM should have the best tech, not a hand down chip that came out years ago. If this had an H3 chip which is coming down the pipeline, better battery life, range etc i can easily see myself getting it. Right now its not a bad headphone at all but if one has an APM its not enough to get one to bite.
 
This was the best price ever on the AirPods Max USB C. I returned those after finding out they don’t even get beta firmware. The APM2 will definitely be getting firmware updates like the other Airpods on H2 chip. Jumped on the purple ones. Good price for premium headphones.

With every iOS release, they will be getting features since they’re on H2 like every other AirPods that gets better with firmware.

I know but at this point the H3 should be around the corner and it will have exclusive features that the H2 won’t have. This is more of a personal choice, i would just wait it out for the H3 version or if its some crazy crazy crazy deal then get it but for now im ok with my APM and they have AppleCare so if anything happens to them im covered.

Good points but speculative. H3 around the corner? If, and that’s a big if they come with some “Ultra” model Airpods they’ll have H3. Who knows when that will be. Apple is notorious about maximizing their profits with current chip generation H2. H3 = higher cost, higher prices for consumers. Of course eventually maybe the AirPods Pro with AI camera will get H3. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that’s 2027 at the earliest.

At US$399, the AirPods Max is now worth the money. Reason: the chance that with the iPhone 18 Pro (and eventually iPhone 18) models, the C2 I/O chip might support a higher bandwidth AAC encoding with a rate as high as 768 kilobits/second when decoded with any Apple headphone using the H2 chip, which could mean sound quality very close to that of Apple Lossless encoding.

Please explain or provide source link. How does C2 modem achieve this?

These are all about listening to music with their ANC on, and they are impressive. I dare say they are worth it for that technology. I succumbed to temptation and broke down and bought them. They may never be cheaper than they are now.
