I've currently got a 4th gen Airport Extreme and often use a 2TB external hard drive connected to it via USB. Transfer speeds almost never surpass 15mb/s via wifi.

Does anyone know how fast the wifi transfer speeds are on a connected USB drive in a 6th gen airport extreme?

Generally, I see speeds of 20-25 MB/s (Megabytes per Second) on a USB 2.0 Western Digital hard drive attached to my Extreme.

Wow, so not much of an improvement.... that's terrible. Why are the speeds so slow?

The Extreme is not an NAS device in nature, it is simply a secondary feature. That being said, I find the performance to be quite acceptable for all of my needs including Time Machine, software installs, and video content.
