The award used to be for scientific breakthroughs. Then they watered it down by adding an award in economics, which is not technically a 'Nobel.'

Now, they are a political hack group just like the Emmy's, and 'the Academy.'

    What a waste.

    Gawsh.

It's so damn hot these days.

Quick, send all your money to Pope Algore, god of Gaia's church, and hopefully anointed dictator of the earth.

    Give me my OSX, Algo.

I could not disagree more in the extreme.

I think we should amend this with.... "since 2003, or whenever it was his movie came out."

I swear, everything must have been fine with the climate before then because I never heard so much about it until now. And I sure as hell don't remember it being a part of Al's initiatives during his '01 run. Convenient...or inconvenient?

this is so sad......but thanks G., the association with that crap organization called UN (United Nothing) says it all --> it's worthless, a politically driven nobel price.

Why is this a negative? And why are people saying this is a bad thing for Apple? Did nobody know Al Gore was on Apple's board of directors?

Seriously, if your company had one of its employees win the freaking NOBEL PEACE PRIZE, you would place a big announcement on your home page as well.

There's a big difference between a Nobel Prize and an Academy.

You're actually equating an Academy Award with the Nobel Peace Prize?

Acting like you didn't almost spill your chai latte when you found out he won the Academy award?

    Priceless.

Sheesh, I never knew there were so many non-environmentalists on these boards. You're almost as bad as the Apple cultists. It's been known for quite some time that Al Gore was the front runner for the Nobel Peace Prize, and do you think you're more qualified to vote on these issues than the Nobel Committee? There have been other peace prize winners who didn't stop a war (Pauling).

Plus, it's not like polluting the air and wasting energy is a good thing, no matter if it causes damage to the Earth's atmosphere or not.

And regardless, if you're a Mac fan, you would support one of the top execs of the company you pay so much attention to. It's not like he was indicted for anything bad *coughcough*

I'm sorry. One film wins the Academy Award for Best Documentary each year. One person or entity wins the Nobel Peace Prize each year. I agree the nominees usually run in different circles but Al Gore won both this year. So where is my error in comparing the two?

Why is the Nobel more prestigious?

omg. BECAUSE THE NOBEL PRIZE IS ASSOCIATED WITH SOME OF THE BEST, MOST INFLUENTIAL, SMARTEST PEOPLE THIS WORLD HAS TO OFFER. EINSTEIN, CURIE, PLANCK, MOTHER TERESA, ETC. ETC.

Do you seriously think Halle Berry and Russell Crowe can compare? These people discovered the structure of DNA, cured diseases, discovered the power of the atom, discovered the theory of relativity...

And there are many, many Nobel Peace Prize winners that didn't directly do something to stop a war. Like I just said, Mother Theresa comes to mind, as does Jimmy Carter.

Personally I'm glad the mods are keeping an eye on this. It's a thread in the mac section, and it should stay on topic.

For those whining about "censorship" or whatever, what's so hard about taking your rants to the other thread?

    Remember....

Al Gore didn't invent the internet,
but he did make up global warming.

Seriously though, I think its great publicity for Apple that the nobel peace prize winner is on their board.
