From the High Priest of the Church of Gaia himself:

I wonder if he really believes what's issuing from his mouth.

Not when you consider it seems to be the Left's MO to decry anyone who doesn't fall into line with them some form of -ist or -phobe.

Don't like affirmative action? You're racist against black people.
Don't like unrestricted immigration? You're racist against Mexicans.
    Don't like gay marriage? You're a homophobe.
    ...
Don't like saving the earth the way we want? (I don't even know what to call it; Gore apparently thinks it's racism) you're a...Gaiaphobe?

When you think of racist, what adjectives do you think of? I think uneducated, ignorant, wrong, backwards, and naive.
My guess is if you take the time, almost every adjective you use to describe racist will be how climate change deniers will be seen in the future (assuming 97+% of scientists are correct).

Pretty much. I don't get this "liking gay marriage" thing. You don't have to "like it". I'm straight and while I have absolutely no interest in watching gay people go at it can't I still stand up for their right to do what they want? "Liking" has nothing to do with it. Respecting other people is the real issue here.

Actively campaigning to disallow others from being happy when there's no real effect on you is pretty hateful in my book.

    Al Gore is a blowhard.

That is nonsense. The issue is not about whether one "likes" gay marriage. It is about whether two human beings, regardless of gender, have the constitutional right to civil unions called marriages. Or to turn it around, whether the state should legally prevent this. There is no "like" button being pushed, nor are supporters of this right required to derive special pleasure from the concept of gay marriage in order to support it as a political/social concept.

Whereas conservatives refrain from applying spurious and insulting labels to liberals who disagree with them? Michele Bachmann just interpreted bad weather as divine warnings against liberalism, in case you forgot.

I don't see how one could view it any other way.

I agree. It's just such an awkward analogy.

    Yeah...right. You mean kinda like:

Don't like the bible, guns, Reagan, tax cuts for the rich, unrestrained capitalism, privatization of everything, huge spending on the military while being in support of unemployment benefits, food stamps, separation between church and state, LGBT rights, science and abortion rights?

You're a socialist communist satanic unAmerican leech who hates everything America stands fer!

Weird. Worked for me now too.

Anyway, I thought it might sound a little different than it read. He's saying we've gotten to the point where racist talk is not acceptable in mixed company; it's not just impolite, it's widely considered to be wrong. Gore's saying we need to get to that point with climate change (and by implication, other anti-science nonsense), to where the crazy talk that is so "acceptable" today from Bachmann and Perry and others to their wide audience of fools is not acceptable anymore.

We do need to marginalize the idiots. If there's one single thing that's going to destroy this country, possibly this world, it's the mainstream acceptance of stupidity.

People had "legitimate" and "scientific" reasons to be "racist" 50 ro 60 years ago, just like global warming skeptics have now.

Could you imagine Fox News back in the '40s and '50s?

"When we come back, our panel will discuss liberal attacks on the Constitution, particularly where it clearly says that black people equal three-fifths of a white person.

    "Fox News. Fair and balanced."

Unfortunately, eugenics in any capacity except the most basic of primal urges is frowned upon.

Its over-used and was never accurate, anyway. What he said about the internet and his involvement was 100% true. But like I said, over-used even if it ever was funny. Kind of joke Leno would use for years...

    Poor choice of analogy.

Perhaps if he had said we should compare global warming deniers to the flat earth society members or the geocentrists, it would have been a better analogy.

clearly the two things are on completely different planes, and cannot be compared.

the fact that gore did not equate them except in the original post here and, to a lesser extent, in the cited article is a completely different story.
