Well, that's just silly. We all know that the rich will take their money and create jobs with their tax cuts! I mean, just look at how many they created in the last ten years! Oh wait...

I'm so tired of people bitching about what wealthy people spend their money on.

"look at all these things that you want but can't have... I bet you don't want the rich to have them either do you!"

Why exactly should the American people pay for the rich to buy these things via tax cuts for the rich then?

We're coming out of two unfunded wars and a massive recession, as well as an unsustainable deficit. One group of people can contribute $800 billion that they can well afford, and at the moment are not investing in the economy anyway. It's not a case of trying to deny people their right to buy nice things.

What I have a problem with is raising taxes on a select group of Americans.

I also have a problem with the notion that the rich are living plush, finically worry free lives.

And if it is not about that, than how is this huffpost article relevant in the slightest.

+1. We have a whole thread about it somewhere but it didn't amount to anything.

The taxes being discussed are for income over $250,000. The pay the same taxes on their first $35,000 that an average American does.

Who do you mean by 'select group'? The richest? Of course they should have their taxes raised first. That's a progressive taxation system. For gods sake, it's only a 3% tax increase anyway!

This is really the attitude that is screwing America.

If you're making over $1m/year and are not financially worry-free, you're doing it wrong.

All the money up until $250,000 is taxed at the same rate as say, $35,000, is. After that there is a slight increase in tax rate.

If they are rich, why do they need a government hand out for that amount?

    Please explain.

It's not a "handout" it's just a reduction on taxes. They are just keeping more of the money that they earned.

    Grayson is an complete moron.
I love how he keeps saying 'we can give the millionaire's some money'. It's their money to begin with! You're just going to be taking less of it from them! 100% idiot.

That's rich. Especially coming from someone who can, with a straight face, say that Sarah Palin is qualified to be President.

    This explains tax brackets properly:

    http://www.moneychimp.com/features/tax_brackets.htm

Just look at the first chart and the example below.

The 3-4.6% raise will only occur to the top two brackets. If you make $250,000, it's not that the entire $250,000 will be taxed at 33%. Only the amount between $171,850 and $250,000 would be taxed at 33%.

If you scroll down and look at the "Tax Hikes, Tax Cuts" section, it will show you what will happen if/when the Bush tax cuts end. How horrible.

I think it is worthwhile to consider how those rich people have managed to earn and keep earning and hang on to all that wealth. It was probably not in a vacuum. My guess is that they had quite a lot of help getting there. So now, we simply ask that they should pay at least part of the fare.
