No, they'll do it globally like all their other USB-C enabled products. Too much product complexity different port SKUs in different regions and they've already been transitioning everything to USB-C anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold USB C models in Europe and Lightning model’s elsewhere. They already have three different variants when it comes to physical and eSIMs around the world. If they can do that they could also offer both USB C in Europe and Lightning models elsewhere.

Apple should pull out of Europe!

USB-C was coming to Apple products anyway. Pretty obvious with past and recent product releases.

EU whining about it to make headlines and to be viewed as the saviors that made it a “standard” is laughable.

No, we aren’t quiet. 👊😙👍

I'm actually kinda surprised that Apple (who were the first to eliminate the floppy, and then the CD drive) didn't just eliminate a charging/data port altogether.
Is there anything a Firewire/USB-C port can do, that WIFI/magnetic charging can't?

EDIT: Not Firewire; Lightning. d'Oh!!

I can't care less about this. I only use the connector to charge the damn thing. I don't want a completely wireless iPhone though. That would be a stupid thing but we all know that Apple wants to do it.

Wire transfer data and power much faster than wireless solutions and more reliable. Is that convincing enough?

Remember, the backbone of our high speed internet is built with wires. Cell tower only beams the data to our phone Or tablet or whatever.

Delighted to hear about the move to USB-C

Probably won't be a big boon for me for quite a few years though, as everything Apple that I have is good for several years and it's all lightning

An updated iPad mini would probably be the first to break me off all lightning

I’m sure you’d love to be paying even more for your Apple products to make up all billions lost by Apple ditching over a quarter of their revenue then . Absolutely nonsensical comments like yours are amusing in the extreme. Apple isn’t bigger than a continent it trades in and I don’t think the EU need publicity for its rules.

My dude...this was in the plans for long. We just kinda have a bit of a war problem at our doorstep and before that there was a slight pandemic going on.

And its started because companies used slots from micro to normal usb for loading and its better to have a standard.

I don't think they will, they know that USB-C is superior so they'll make the change (like they're doing with the iPad's) under the pretext that they have to, to safe some face.

Otherwise there whole change to USB-C on iPad's doesn't make sense.

What a nonsensical solution that suggestion is.

We know Apple is aiming to go portless. The EU directive only applies to devices that are ”capable of wired charging.” Without a port, iPhone is incapable of wired charging. It’s not dissimilar from the iPhone 14 lacking a SIM tray which has literally a plastic spacer in place of the tray.

If iPhone 15 offers Wi-Fi 6E and higher power MagSafe, there’s no much reason to have USB-C for EU.
