I bought a 16GB USB to make a bootable drive for mountain lion (I'm installing a SSD).

The first step is to create the bootable disk, but I can't find the file to backup using 'Lion disk maker'.

Can I re-download the file from the app store?

Open the App store and option-click on the purchased tab and have it "show" ML. You can then re-download it.

    It's not a zip file it's a *.app file.

I've re-downloaded Mountain Lion twice now after the initial purchase and made a USB thumb drive.
