Alternatives to Flash

Are there any programs out there that are similar to Flash, but don't cost so much?

The ONLY thing that I need flash for is making video players to embed on websites. I really can't see spending $200 (academic discount) on a program that I'm only going to use once in a while.

Basically, I want a program that can make video players similar to the YouTube player. I want it to be flash-based because not everyone has Quicktime or WMP.

No, but more of our viewers have Flash than QuickTime or WMP.

I'm looking for a program that still exports files in the Flash format, but aren't made by Flash itself. I don't even know if one of these programs exists.
