On the system's first day of pre-sale, Amazon had mistakenly sold the new Macbook Pro models at a heavily-discounted price as low as $800 under the sale price Apple had set on its own store. Both of the highest-end Touch Bar models were listed at prices even lower than the system's starting price, with the upgraded $1,999 512GB 13" model going for $1,499 and the $2,799 512GB 15" model available for pre-order at a cool $1,999.
I wouldn't be too hard on whoever made this mistake as these prices do sound absolutely spot-on. $1,999 for the 15" model with 512GB of flash memory would have been in-line with my expectations of the price and configuration Apple would offer for the new MacBook Pro, give or take two hundred dollars.
The lucky customers who managed to pre-order the systems at such a steep discount will indeed be receiving their orders in a gracious move by Amazon, with a limit of one per customer.
In a separate incident, Amazon accidentally offered a varying discount across the line:
