The United States, Canada, and Mexico. Congratulations to all. Should be much more fun than the spectacle Qatar will put out in 2022. Plus, fun initials for all.

So the US will have 2 years to make up with Mexico & Canada after Trump’s 2nd term ends.

    Will that be enough time?

No need to make up, but we can still be cordial for a few weeks.

I'd love beaver tails to make their way into the US.

You do realize we owe a huge debt to Canada, right? And I am not talking financial.

The only reason Canada exists is because of the US military so we’re even.

The question is how the players are going to be able to get back and forth from Mexico to the US and from Canada to the US without ICE deporting them for looking like damned foreigners or Trump slapping tariffs on their equipment.

Huh? Are you referring to the military folly in which the US invaded Canada and was driven out?

Nobody with a valid visa is getting deported for “looking foreign”. Stop conflating ILLEGALLY crossing the border, thereby violating US sovereignty, with LEGAL visitors and immigrants.

No, I’m referring to the fact that US essentially subsidizes Canada’s national defense. Canadians would be speaking Spanish, Russian or Chinese if the US didn’t exist.

A visa does not guarantee entry.

Or maybe they would all be speaking French.

They would be speaking French in the 1800s, but the modern French military would be, at best, a minor speed bump for China or Russia.

You cannot infer what France or North America would be now if history had been different.

The arrogance of some Americans these days thinking that they are the supreme nation reminds me of something.

Canadian spending in NATO is relatively low, but their participation with troops ins security operations is high. Also, the US might have become a charred landscape of radioactive glass had Canada denied the US permission to site radar bases on Canadian soil during the Cold War. Indeed, it is worth considering what history would have been like if Canada had decided to side with the USSR during the Cold war.

The problem with the statements about US allies not pulling their weight is very often the US has acted unilaterally and then expected support from allies. Given that some allies have answered that call even though they were hardly consulted by the US, perhaps we should give the Canadians a break and appreciate that they have been steadfast US ally for more than a century.

One more note: although I live in Scotland, I am a US citizen. I hope the people of Canada, Europe and the parts of the globe that the current US administration has belittled, harangued, and try to bully understand that most US citizens are appalled by Trump's behaviour. Trump seems to speak only for 40% or so of the US citizenry.
