It's also being reported by engadget

On one hand, it shouldn't be a surprise and on another it is.

Because the user base for android phones has exceeded the user base for the iPhones, I can see why this occuring but its surprising because we've read a number of articles lamenting how the android marketplace is not making money for developers. Too many free apps that if not outright duplicate premium apps, they're pretty close to being a clone.

I think all the hype with Apple taking 30% of your app profits and subscription fees, and how it costs £99 to be an iOS developer in the first place has a majour factor.

30% of profit is fine in my mind. 30% of subscription is far too much and I wouldn't be suprised if services such as Spotify pulled out. £99 to begin with is hardly encouraging either. I'd seriously concider making a lovley adventure game app in my spare time if it didn't cost so much.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.3; en-gb; Nexus S Build/GRI40) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

It does mystify (and annoy) me that so many iOS ports are offered on an ad supported only basis (Angry Birds being the biggest example).

Hopefully this is the start of a trend with Android becoming a viable and attractive platform for paid apps so I can actually buy more of what I want to. I've already spent plenty of money on the platform and am willing to reward developers by spending more.

It'd be interesting to see the ages and incomes of the users on each platform, along with the number of actual users on each.

It's known that Android attracts more males, which has got to help games.

    LOL

There are barely any games in the Android App Marketplace or whatever it's called. A mediocre MMO on iOS means the opposite on Android. Of course this game really shines on Android because of the lack of games in terms of quality and quantity. And the game itself is pretty mediocre. It also says alot about the type of user downloading it. Your average Android user is a different demographic than your average iOS user. iOS users don't seem to be all that impressed with a bad version of WoW on a phone.

Could this be because the same type of people who are attracted to MMOs are also attracted to Android? Connect the dots, guys.

No doubt installing custom ROMs would appeal to those who like sitting in basements playing WoW 23 hours a day.

Still nice to see a bright spot in the wasteland that is the Android app store - even if it does unmask the conclusions this news attempts to lead to as pure bogus.

However, those of you looking to level up your level 24 Garden Gnome, rejoice!!

Wow LTD, what a closed minded point of view.

It seems that some of us who use and enjoy to use Android don't live up to your closed minded view. I've never touched WoW and have no interest in it.

I have a wonderful wife, beautiful daughter and another child on the way. I've also been away from my mothers teat since I was eighteen.

Your massive generalization of people based on a smartphone OS and their lifestyle is flawed beyond belief. Perhaps I am an enigma but myself and everyone I know that own Android phones are nothing like you describe.

*LTD* I find your above post most pathetic and unessasary. It's clear you have nothing decent or constructive to add to the debate apart from abuse to anyone who doesn't use Apple devices.

Face the facts. Android is winning despite you claiming that would never happen. Get over your butthurtitis and connect the dots. You claim often that Google doesn't care about user experience, and yet I am yet to find a Google service which doesn't perform flawlessly. Their search, their mail, google docs, chrome, the list goes on. Never had a problem. And neither have millions of other people. This is whilst many people, including myself, struggle with MobileMe and it's habit of deleting random stuff or just not responding.

Deal with it and stop making up crap. It's people like you who put me off Apple a lot.

Well you should be the one connecting the dots. That is at the basest level. The android platform is making more $$ for developers then iOS. No matter how you spin it, or call into question the quality of the apps (which you cannot do since you only use iOS and have no experience with android), Android is being used by more people and making more money for developers.

I tried that. But LTD is a great yard stick to get the fanboys opinions and therefor considering it worthless argument. That means if anyone else uses that argument it is a fanboy argument and should not be considered.

I thought of doing that, but then I realized that I would be missing out on a ton of laughs. Imagine it as a joke character, and the posts become some of the best stuff on here.
