CarPlay Announce messages doesn't

In iOS 18, when I got a text message while connected to CarPlay, the system would read the text message. I jumped to 26.0 around DP 4 and from that point on, including the general release and now 26.1 DP1, I get the alert appear on the dashboard, but the message is not announced or read to me.

I’m gonna start with the obvious. Did you confirm that it’s still enabled in CarPlay settings?

have you toggled it off and back on?

I've had a couple instances where the indicator and the actual function seem to get out of sync on updates. so even though the with says it's on, the feature is actually off.
