Is it just me, or has Apple really taken a nose dive on quality this year?

I’m a die-hard Apple fan. But I’m so disappointed with these versions of iOS, iPadOS, and Catalina.

I balked at Apple and advocated Windows back in the 90s. I got sick of that scene and bought my first “modern Mac” in 2004. The iBook. It was a godsend in computing convenience. Solid. Software I could rely on. I’ve sung Apple’s praises since.

What’s happened between iOS 12 and now? I’m trying to be reserved in my words, but the software has turned into a pile of ****, and they don’t seem to care.

Fortunately iPad OS has been good for me with only very minor issues with predictive text on the keyboard. I kept my X on 12.4.1 and have no experience with iOS 13 on that device..

Not to negate what you're saying but all three versions (iOS, iPadOS, macOS) have been working superbly for me so far (knock on wood).
Ditto for me. I know some have had their problems, but aside from some relatively minor things, this has worked quite well.

I think we'll see them change how they approach these different OS's in the future, however. I'm subscribing to the view some prominent tech journalists have taken that Apple will take more time with iOS 14 and will not try to cram all features into the 14.0 release, but will stagger feature releases through the course of the year. We shall see!

Over all very pleased with 13.x.x. Could I have imagined 10 years ago what we have now? Nope. Could I imagine what we’ll have in 2030? Not a chance. A few bugs here and there every single year and more to come in IOS 14 thru IOS 20+

I have the mail bug but it really doesn't bother me that much anymore. Other than that I have no real problems with 13 - good batter, good performance, etc.

People have lowered their standards and have settled for lower quality software. Bugs are “ok”, shrugged off. Missed calls? Missing emails? Can’t mark them read? Can’t copy and paste reliably? Autocorrect changing correctly spelled words to incorrect spellings?

If you want to see where we may end up given the degradation in software, watch Jonathan Blow’s talk on Preventing the Collapse of Civilization. (He does the experiment to actually keep track of how many bugs he sees in apps and OSes.)

iOS 13 has been good on my iPhone and pretty rough on my iPad and Mac. After experiencing data loss due to iCloud+Files, I sold my iPad Pro+MacBook Air and switched to Surface + Windows, about a month ago. Lovely hardware, software is not without issues, but, overall, works much more reliably for me.

While I do agree the initial launch of iOS 13 was rockier than we've come to expect, over the course of a few months it's become quite nice. 13.4 especially is very responsive, and operates with zero complaints from me. I'm a fan.

Nope. I have been very pleased with Catalina and OS 13. I use a 2018 Mini, and older Mac Air, Ipad Air 2. and my XS Max. No serious issues at all. Yeah, I know some people have issues, but I haven't seen any real degradation of quality.

Spot on. Think we went from beta testers to alfa testers. With that said you should be aware of Microsofts windows 10 updates. They are far worse. Believe it or not

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree - Windows 10 has been more stable from day 1 than Catalina has ever been.
Windows 10 was never stable from day one and causes issues with every feature upgrade Microsoft put out. Like others here I have been using Catalina from day one and apart from a few missing album arts in Music I have had no issues at all.
