Well, it seems as if even another world leader is out-classing Obama.

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...roops-taxpayers-for-sacrifice-in-afghanistan/

When is the last time, (ever?) that Obama thanked the American Taxpayer?
Obviously he believes that the taxes he tries to raise are owed to him and the Federal Government, and thus, he doesn't need to thank them.

And then he thanked the US troops. When is the last time Obama did that?

On Christmas Eve, while he was on vacation in Hawaii.

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/201...nks-troops-hawaii-their-extraordinary-service

It's a sad day when I feel more affection for the President of Afghanistan over my own.

I welcome your opinion. That is why we are, you know, on a political forum.

Don't worry, I'm fine. It's the planet Earth I worry about.

Also, that's not a proper political retort.

My question is whether the OP intends this thread to serve to criticise President Obama, or to praise the very impressive speech (one of a number he has delivered this week) by President Ashraf Ghani, the President of Afghanistan when he addressed the Joint Houses of Congress earlier today?

Why should the US president or any other US politician thank the US taxpayers for money they spend on their behalf ?

Sure you may disaggree with the way it spend, but you still voted them into office and you did know that they will spend it...

Now country A spending in country B that can't raise enough taxes to keep itself running, thats a whole different matter.

Sounds like you need to unplug from the Fox News propaganda machine for a while. :D

Praise AND criticize. I don't like it when the President of a 3rd world country out-classes the leader of the free world.

I don't read Fox News, do you? I prefer France24.

And seeing that this came first and foremost from Breitbart, it's already a throw-away bit anyway.

Trusting Breitbart is like trusting Acme's products to actually help you catch the Roadrunner.

Nope, but I suspect France24 has a very similar format. :D

France24 is run by the government of France. I don't think they and Fox News are exactly hand-holders.

Well I'll tell you now he is not the only leader, or head of state who is a total ungrateful tosser.;)

I think you will find that it's the job of a leader to raise taxes and his government 's job to spend them.;)

I think your problem with Obama, has a different reason.

My problem is Obama in the context of the speeches that keep overshadowing him.

Ah, so it is wounded pride at fearing that one's President was not looking good (by contrast - with what? - the president of a third world country?!) and not a desire to applaud an impressive invited guest who delivered an excellent speech.

I wish we could bring all our troops home. It would only take an EO since our wars are illegal and undeclared. Then again, we have not declared war since the 1940s.

Calling Breitbart a source is laughable.

It has been over a hundred days since the last US combat fatality. That is the longest such streak since before 9/11.

Has Obama been ignoring the US military, in your opinion? What about when he signed the The Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention act in February? Did you listen to his remarks then?

The ISAF combat mission ended in December 2014. This means that the US troops remaining have a different task, mostly mentoring, advising, training, and supporting the ANSF, and their mission has been renamed accordingly to the RSM (Resolute Support Mission). They are no longer fighting in the front line, and hence are not taking the sort of casualties that they used to.

Since the start of 2014, the Afghans have been 'in the lead' increasingly in combat situations and in combating the insurgency and have taken considerable - indeed, enormous - casualties accordingly.
