Cops are really making me angry these days. First they murdered Michael Brown, then this happens.

I'm all for stricter laws prohibiting the cops from harassing good Americans. I think more police officers need to be jailed for crimes like this.

Ideally, since cops have more authority to arrest people and detain them, if they violate that right, they should be jailed longer.

That should help prevent them from harassing us.

I'll settle for them being held to the SAME STANDARDS/LAWS as normal citizens are. right now things are stacked so far in their favor that it's not even funny.

Yet another thread spreading hatred for police. How surprising. I really get the idea that the Police do nothing right in some people's minds here. Maybe when you call 9-1-1, no one will bother to answer.

So we should just excuse the power trip that officers nationwide seem to be on and ignore it?

Just heard a traffic stop on Highway 11 on my radio. The officer stopped the driver for excessive speed. The driver's 10-29's were clean, his 10-28 was good. He was released with a warning. Officer didn't have to fire any shots.

I thought maybe we just needed one where the cops didn't bust a cap into the perp. It happens once in a while. The officer just can't come up with a reason to rip out that pistol and use it.

You know, it's not just the actions of these many rogue officers that people are pissed at. It's the general arrogance, douchebaggery, and sense of superiority that radiates off a huge portion of police officers on a daily basis in our towns and cities. They really think they're hot sh** and will cover for each other no matter what. The public is fed up with being intimidated by our own employees.

1 few if any hate police

2 most people hate police ABUSE

3 the ONLY ones excusing the cops most of the time happen to be other cops.

Succinct, but very well said and to the point. My father is even shaking his head at the spate of these incidents.

I completely agree. They don't need stricter punishment, but they do need to be held accountable for acts of negligence or malfeasance that results in the loss of property, injury, or death. Standard punishment will do.

    ----------

Try not to take it personally.

These acts are occurring and it's natural for people to feel outrage over unjustifiable injury and death.

It means that I'm commissioned but it isn't my full time job. It's like the reserves. It doesn't pay enough for me to consider it as a career.

    Excellent assessment...

No, rent-a-cops are security officers. Plus they get paid more.

Yes. I am POST certified. I usually do about 20 hours a month of duty. Work events, the detention center, traffic or patrol.

We don't have a Hobby Lobby but good play on words. Hobby Lobby looks for storefronts where a Kmart or other big box retailer has went out of business.

Peace Officer Standards & Training - It's the certification that law officers in Georgia are required to have. I was tempted to say that it was a secret society like the Shriners and Masons where we all wear funny hats and recite things but alas… I just linked it.

The police just have to be prepared to tackle abuse by their own.

You could also look at it that more people these days show complete disrespect and display general douchebaggery any time a cop is around, with many of them going so far as to taunt officers or invite confrontation. As The Fixx said, "One Thing Leads To Another". Now, which came first?

You have it correct but people overseas tend not to understand what a reserve deputy is.
