After reading this headline do you think the media has a anti-gun agenda?
is that real? or satire?
No. It tells me that a single newspaper is doing a sloppy job reporting the news.
A woman drove her car into a crowd at the OSU Homecoming parade.
It was real! The paper put a redaction in today but that is always on the back page.
OMG a small town newspaper gets it’s headline wrong, and you are shouting like it’s the end of the Second amendment.
This is more a case for the First Amendent.
The Traverse City Record- Eagle, well known as the newspaper of record.
Get over yourself OP and a few others. Your obsession with guns is far from healthy.
Agreed. If anything, the OP just affirmed New World Communications v. Akre, which grants the media's right to lie to be covered under the 1A.
Congratulations. Your rather unhealthy obsession of/for guns served you laughably horribly.
if we use this logic with fox news then man the GOP is really looking bad.
Media wishful thinking along the lines of:
Dewey defeats Truman.
Clinton defeats Trump.
I await the headline:
Shooter Kills 5; Injures 22 in Whale-Watching Ship Sinking
Reading the comments on their clarification post leaves me with a feeling that I may have brained my damage.
I RED EET 2! AR GURRRRD!
The comments are absolutely gold. Such well-adjusted and rational gun apologists.
Lol my favorite:
Why else would a newspaper in Michigan, no-where near local to the incident, and privy to the major US newswires, completely smeg up an article with such a blatantly false byline, go to press with it, and not expect any such backlash?
To use one of @jkcerda's lines: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
However, it's interesting to note which people here are playing the apologist/rationalist card; some of which are the usual suspects.
I'd bet that Michael Moore was behind the plot.
It'd be nice if they published a proper apology for their **** up.
Michael Moore is pretty fat, so he can be behind plenty of things
I can see this happening it happens so often they have a headline ready and they just change the numbers.
I was gonna say something like that.
See, they've just gotten used to reporting mass shootings...
You know...it's kind of like the first few weeks of this year, when out of sheer habit you were still writing "2014" on checks and stuff.
I was going to guess automatic headline generation. It would be an easy mistake to make for a machine learning package.
A solar eclipse, for one.
The newspaper blamed the page layout artist. Dunno about that. Artists lay out copy, not write it.
One irrelevant newspaper = the whole media.
I always say, there's nothing more vile than the comments section of right wingers online.
And that's just sad.
I don't know if it's true, but I'm told the job of news editor -- you know, the one guy who reviews the stories, writes the headlines, and makes sure the details, spelling and grammar are accurate before the stories are printed or put online -- is largely passé.
I can believe it. If you've read any online news copy lately, surely you've noticed how bad it's become. Primarily I see (or rather, don't see) dropped words that make sentences hard to follow. I also see sentences and even whole paragraphs repeated within the same article. It's gotten ridiculous.
