This is perfect. Typical anti-gun group trying to leverage yet another tragedy to promote their garbage agenda. Sister informs them that a gun is the only thing that could have saved her.

If only more people were like this girl after experiencing a tragedy. Knee-jerk, ineffective legislation isn't the answer.

Btw, the person that murdered her sister was a felon. Yep... he acquired a gun despite not being legally allowed to do so. Funny how that works.

Jessie Doyle was murdered by her estranged ex-husband.

Not to blame the victim, but to claim that "a gun was the only thing that could have saved" Jessie Doyle is frankly absurd. Starting with the fact that Oregon's criminal justice system should have dealt far more effectively with a convicted felon who had made the sort of domestic violence threats he did.

Ms. Doyle was shot in her apartment, the one she shared with her small children. Maybe if she had a gun she could have successfully fought a gun battle with her tattooed biker-gang meth-head ex-husband. Then again, the resulting gun battle could have ended up with several more people - including her children - dead in the crossfire.

Exploiting tragedy to further ones political aims is in poor taste if it is done by an anti gun group. Its just as bad when Fox News does it to promote theirs.

But you blame the victim anyway...

I'm sure if she lived with a cop or had private security, she may have had a chance. Oh wait... we're talking about realistic solutions here.

Police and the justice system don't care and can't protect you. It's pretty obvious that police are 5-10min away at best.

Here we go with the classic ******* argument of "she could have shot her children." I'll take **** that never happens for $1000. Way to basically say, "it's morally superior for her to be defenseless and get murdered." So disgusting.

How exactly is fox news promoting an agenda? They are reporting on the scumbag gun control group.

I did not read it that way at all.

He wasn't blaming the victim, he was questioning the concept that only a gun could have saved her.

And I'm guessing that if you trace it back it was stolen from a "responsible gun owner" who didn't properly secure it or use it to defend himself from the robbery.

Possibly, either way it was way too easy for a felon to get a gun, so perhaps we should look into solving that problem.

plenty of crime everywhere, not sure how would you fix the problem, better education & work opportunities come to mind but the GOVT does not care much about education & work? well, let's offshore all of it:mad:

Probably start by requiring guns to be secured and locked up when they are in a home. Only allow them to be out when taken out for hunting, or to a shooting range.

More importantly, keep guns and ammo seperated.

Write the law to allow for criminal charges if your gun is stolen and wasn't locked up. Also if a gun purchased by you is used in a crime allow there to be charges filed in order to encourage people to report stolen weapons.

Sounds good in theory, but how exactly would It be provable whether or not a gun was locked up when it was stolen?

Your article is about possession of a stolen gun, not the gun owner who had their gun stolen getting charged for not properly locking it up.

    ----------

I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to tell if a gun safe was broken into or not...
