I'll be traveling out of town on the 20th and was trying to figure out best/easiest option to get new phones in hand on launch day.

Over the past several years I pre-order immediately when it's available and have my new devices delivered on launch day. Very easy. No hassle with retail stores (ATT or Apple) possibly having long lines, limited availbility, etc. This year throws a wrench in the mix with it being the same day I leave town (and more than likely FedEx/UPS truck not showing up before I have to depart).

Has anyone ever heard of either ATT or Apple being able to ship to another address other than the billing address on file? I think it's highly unlikely but I wanted to ask.

Thanks in advance.

You could have Fedex or UPS hold your package. Then you can go pick it up that morning before you leave town. That worked out for me with the Apple Watch.

That’s a good idea. Thank you. That’s probably what I’ll do.

So I just need to put a hold request on the packages once I have the tracking number? Which carrier did you do that with? UPS or FedEx? I’m wondering if both carriers have that option.

I would delay vacation until time of delivery. Nah, I will be out of town during delivery too. Hope one of the people staying here signs for it. Ha

Back to @pnutx007’s question. Can you change shipping address to address different than billing? I don’t think it can be done if you order via Apple - carrier AT&T. But what if you order via Apple iUP?

I've got a similar issue. I think I'm going to change my AT&T billing address to my physical address and then change it back to my PO Box after I receive the iPhone. They won't ship to a PO Box so in years past I've had to drive an hour and a half to pick it up at an Apple store.

I assume they will ship with UPS or FedEx. If you signup for those services, you can adjust your delivery address there. Only exception would be if Apple will not allow the shippers to receive adjustments. That has not been the case in the past. I have told UPS several times over the years to hold my phone so I would pick it up in the morning. I don't plan to reroute to a resort while I am out of town but might have them hold it until I get back.

I know Apple uses UPS and lets you do a hold instantly.

I think AT&T can use either, and I'm not sure of their policy on instantly having the package held.

Verizon is dumb and won't let you hold until a delivery attempt is made.

I contacted Apple via chat:

“For AT&T account holders, the shipping information must match the billing information that you have on your AT&T account.”

“But for iPhone Upgrade Program with AT&T, which requires carrier activation, your shipping details always matches what billing information AT&T has on file.“

So, I changed the shipping address on Apple and billing address on AT&T to my work address. Hopefully all good to ship to my work address!

This is what I'm going to do too.

Whenever I order from Apple for the iPhone and ships via Fedex (typically after the launch hype, they use both, but for pre-orders, they use UPS), I always request a hold for pick up and sometimes they call and leave a message due to the Apple restriction on those package, however I never had any issues with it despite them saying so and was always able to pick it up at the Fedex Ship and Print center that I choose.

I will be doing the same this year.

Change your shipping address with Apple and do a couple of test orders to make sure there are no hangups during the order process. That's what I've done for at least the last couple times a new iPhone has come out. I live in Maryland and my fiance lives in Utah.

Order a dongle and then cancel the order a few minutes later.

Good idea. I should of done that yesterday when I ordered the iPhone 11 Pro Clear Case.

I ordered the Apple black leather case as part of the test ordering process and it will arrive at the new shipping address on Friday. I also ordered several more items separately and canceled them a few minutes after, just to be sure. :)

Anyone know I if I can ship to different billing address with sprint when buying it through apple store with my upgrade program? I remember I shipped my series 4 apple watch to the address that's different from my billing.

Yes. Just make sure you have the absolute correct shipping address registered with Apple and do a test purchase (I bought the dongle then cancelled it a few minutes later).

I just have to make sure that the correct shipping address is reflected when I execute my pre-order tomorrow morning. I made the address changes after I was pre-approved.

Like I said earlier, make a test purchase, such as the headphone dongle, and then cancel the order a few minutes later. That way you can make sure that your order tomorrow morning will go through smoothly as far as the shipping address is concerned.

Fwiw, I just spoke to an Apple representative who told me that I could just enter a different shipping address upon the morning's pre-order and as long as someone was there to sign for it it would work (the signee did not need to be me). I’m totally not sure I believe this, though ‍♀️

I never made a test purchase and now the Apple Store is down. Oh well, but I should be good though based on the address changes I made.

It depends on the carrier. Read my comment about AT&T’s shipping policy above.
