I’m a case guy—been rocking a red leather Apple case on my 6S for a few years now, but thinking about “going clear” with one of those Totallee cases for my Pacific Blue 12 Pro ‘cuz this colour is so purdy...

That said, its shiny stainless steel sides seem to scratch pretty easily, and I was wondering if anyone has run into the problem of dirt creeping into their case and scratching the sides from the inside?

The case I’m looking at would provide very little drop protection, so I’m obviously not too interested in using it if it winds up causing the type of damage it’s supposed to be preventing (i.e. scuffs and scratches.)

I have two tiny hair-width scratches on the steel. It’s so narrow that I can hide it with a finger print smudge. It’s annoying but I can ignore it. If it was wider and more prominent then I’d be angrier

I’ve been there and it’s extremely triggering to my (mild, undiagnosed) OCD. It’s like I’d rather have a phone that’s been run through a meat grinder than an otherwise pristine phone with a single scratch on it. Thankfully we all learn to stop caring over time. ;)

Were you using a case? (And if so, which one?)

I put it in a clear Ringke fusion case immediately, and it was in there for most of the time until I saw the scratch. I had a Belkin screen protector fitted when I got the phone. I did read a comment on here about Apple’s screen protector machine scratching their phone. That may have happened in my situation as well

Good to know—but a crappy outcome regardless of the situation.

I guess ultimately there’s only so much you can do with such a scratch-prone finish. Learn to accept the imperfections, hide them under an opaque case, or just leave the phone in a shrink-wrapped box. 🤣
