Hi,

I just completed a buld of a G4 system (Digital audio, in a Quicksilver case). I was just wondering if there was any interest on here for me to do a little article / blog of what I did and used to make this project work.

I am happy to report that I am logging in today with my Dual 533, Digital Audio (in a Quicksilver case) for the first time. This project was much easier then I thought it would be, thanks to many good posts on this website!

Regards,

Now the Quadra isn't the only Mac in the house with 2 processors :D

That would be pretty cool to see.

And... didn't the Quandras only ship with 1 processor? It wasn't until the Clones and the PowerMac G4s that we got Dualies.... (iThought)

Sounds very interesting. I'd really like to see your build. I'd like to get started on my own project in the near future, so all the info I can get would be nice.

Thanks Bovine, I understand this wouldn't be the first blog on a G4 build, I just asked if there was any interest in me typing up a blog. From your link I would assume no would be your answer.

As far as the system goes, you are mostly correct. It has a single 40mhz system processor. In addition to that it also has a 66mhz AT&T Digital Signal Processor. The DSP is used when working with the AV functions, and some older versions of Photoshop will use this processor as well as the 68040. In some sense (to some of us Quad users) the 840av is a symbolic dual processor mac.

I will process the pictures I took after the build, I took them because I was debating selling this box on Ebay. They should be good enough to explain the build process.

Ah... I see. So it is a processor with a helper processor...
