Successfully jailbroke iPhone 3G 4.0 (todays release) with redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5 by pointing redsn0w to the iPhone GM seed of 4.0. After jailbreaking, iTunes will notify you that your phone has been interrupted during a restore. This message, as of now, seems to be a result of the jailbreak and no data is actually lost.

I was just feeling ambitious, but it seems to be working. Cydia was installed, multitasking enabled, and wallpapers were also enabled.

Cool. Thanks for taking the dive head first, lol. Have you tried any tethering? I used THIS to tether on my 3G with 3.1.3. Any luck?

Also, if you pointed to the iOS4 GM seed (and it's the same as the official release today), I should be able to just update the iOS via iTUnes, then JB with Redsn0w 0.9.5?

Cydia was giving me a headache earlier, but it did its thing and got the sources refreshed. I'll try your hack in a bit.

Redsn0w will not allow you to point to todays release of iOS 4. You have to point to the GM build.

I only have an iPhone 3G, sorry. You had iOS 4 downloaded to your iPod, turned off your device, and then pointed redsn0w to the iOS 4 GM beta?

i can confirm that you can jailbreak the offical ios 4 by doing the following:
1) download the corresponsing GM for your i device

2) download redsnow 0.9.5 beta

3) open the GM ipsw with redsnow

4) Jailbreak officially updated iphone/touch.

i did this on a 3g:p

this link has all the GM's

Super cool, thank you for the info. Any luck on tether? Again, I'm using this on my 3G with 3.1.3:

Isn't the GM the final version that was released today? The build numbers are the same.

thats what i thought.

I have tried using redsnow 0.95 beta 4 using ipsw 8A230M. It looks promising but just boots up to recovery mode.
