Any other 10.5 owners cave and get an 11”?

I’ve had my 11” for several days now, and used it quite a bit. Some thoughts on it vs. the 10.5:
-the folio keyboard makes it obviously thicker and slightly heavier compared to the old 10.5. Not that big of a deal though
-the pencil always attached is awesome. Huge deal for me, I’m using the pencil much more than before.
-new pencil isn’t as slick on the screen as the old one, and I think I like the feel better
-the black side bars for non-optimized apps are only slightly annoying. Really only popping up on two apps I use, eBay and amazon. Not a big deal as the apps I work in are optimized
-I actually miss the old Smart Keyboard origami on the 10.5. I used to flip it so that the keyboard was hidden and the screen was propped up in the back, perfect for writing. Can’t do that with the new Folio Keyboard, so I’m stuck flipping the keyboard around and holding it like a sketch book in my lap.
-I do like the folio keyboard’s more solid base, feels more stable in my lap or on the couch.
-Face ID is a nice addition, but not a killer feature for me; the old Touch ID works just fine.
-the extra 1/2 in screen is nice, but I honestly can’t say it makes that much of a difference. The smaller bezels makes for a nicer looking device, but not really worth upgrading over.

In the end, if someone would ask me if they should upgrade from the 10.5 to the 11, I’d say go for it if you have the funds. Definitely not worth putting it on credit though, as the 10.5 is a great device and the old Smart Keyboard is more functional. I’ll be putting my 10.5 up on eBay soon.

i have pretty much the exact same feelings going to the 11 from the 10.5. Adjusting to the new case is tough as i like you love the origami way it folds around. Everytime i think about taking it back i look at my 10.5 and think man i do like the 11 overall better.

Have the 10.5 WIFI for about 11 months. Found I didn't use it that often since I have a MacBook Air 11" and MacBook Pro 2017 13". Decided I wanted to try a 2018 12.9. Maybe I'll use THAT. Bought it and an Otterbox case. After a few days it was too big in the lap and not too stable in Otterbox in tall stand position. Don't really like the new keyboard folio though I like the smart keyboard for my 10.5. I returned the 12.9. Returned to my 10.5 plus it's apple keyboard cover, smart cover, Zugu case, various other Amazon rear cases, pencil.

Decided I wanted LTE, so went back and got an 11 with LTE. Big difference in perceived usability. Take it to breakfast diners with the wifey now, and she can use it on our road trips. Have the Otterbox Symmetry for it again. Like the case well enough, and it's more stable than 12.9 counterpart, but today ordered these to try while I wait on the Zugu case to be back in stock:

Oh, and I got this in case it tried to get away with being "bendy":

Agreed! The 11 has “just enough” to rope you in.

I caved. I had the 7.9” ipad mini 2. The screen was cracked. The home button didn’t work anymore. So yup. I caved and bought the 11” ipad pro. Lol. I know...Not the same thing as coming from the 10.5” ...but I couldn’t resist chiming in.

Seriously tho. If I HAD bought the 10.5” would I have updated to the 11”? Honestly? Probably not. Sure, I would have lusted after the slimmer bezels, the slightly larger screen, the usb-c, and especially the newer Apple Pencil...but I tend to keep my iPads for as long as I can. came out just last year. I think I would have just kept being creative on it, and been totally happy.

But I would never begrudge anyone for upgrading.

Sad to report that I took back the 11 today and returned to using my 10.5. I loved the extra screen realestate and what felt like a overall faster experience but couldn’t justify the $1600. I wasn’t 100% in love with the smart folio as I like the way the 10.5s folds and can create more angles when you do not want to open it all the way. The 11 is a step in the right direction but ill just stay with my 10.5 for now.

I'm still missing those angles, too! I'm still gonna keep the 11 though. Thinking of making a block of some sort for my desk to prop it up for the proper writing angle. Put that $1.6K towards something else!

I think a block could work. I REALLY did like it a lot but man in the back of my head I kept thinking about the fact I have a great 10.5 and could have my $1600 back ha.

It is nice I finally went to Best Buy over the weekend and looked at the 11 inch. I think I am going to stick with the 10.5 inch one for awhile, I can do the exact same things as the 11 inch except of course Face ID.

I had the 10.5 and I wasn't going to upgrade until I went into the Apple Store last week. I had to get a new phone and I saw the 11 inch iPad and immediately caved and bought it. I love it. It is so light and I love holding it. My husband inherited my 10.5 and loves it.

I use my iPad Pro for artistic purposes. I spend several hours a day drawing on Procreate or Coloring and painting on Affinity Photo, and do some casual video editing on Luma Fusion.

I have the 10.5 and I am considering the 11, but I don’t live in the US and a 256gb iPad Pro 11 + folio and pencil would cost me 3000 dollars, plus 5 to 6 weeks to ship.

Right now 10.5 is still a beast, speed and memory are good enough, and Photoshop CC (which is a game changer for me) is not out, and by the time it comes out, there might be a new iPad Pro around the corner. Who knows it finally makes the iPad Pro a replacement for a computer.

I’m sure I would benefit from the extra screen space and performance, but might wait next year, unless I make some extra money in the next couple of months. If you have money to spare, go for it. I would.

I think this is a wise decision. If I was in your situation, I would do the same thing. I was about to buy the 10.5” when the 11” was announced, so that’s why I got the 11”. Otherwise, if I had Ought the 10.5” like you, I would have kept my 10.5” and been totally happy. That way you can continue to be productive as an artist for the next year or so and slowly save up for the next update which is probably coming in 2020.
