Even if you don't accidentally drop it or break it, can you bring it in and have it replaced for a brand new refurbished replacement? I basically want to take advantage as soon as my warranty expires to get a new battery and a new phone. I don't mind paying a $99 fee.

If you want to be super-duper dodgy, buy the same model phone with a smashed screen, swap the smashed screen with your good screen, get phone with smashed screen replaced by AppleCare and sell the now repaired phone for more than $99 profit.

Drop it in water and then claim water damage. They will give you a refurbished unit for $99 plus tax. Don’t smash it beyond repair as they still need to be able to recognize the device. Just leave it water for 2-3 days and tell them you dropped it in the toilet or it rained.

They will not give you a new one without damage. If you just break screen you will just get same device with replaced screen.

bit difficult if its water-resistant :)

oddly enough that is not covered in the standard warranty even though it is rated as such.

to the OP, you would have to destroy your phone or sink it as others have suggested =/

Unless your phone is truly nasty you won't make much/any additional money doing this. It sounds like you are talking about replacing under AC+ since damage isn't covered under regular AC.

I will disagree here. A flawless phone is easily going to sell before a damaged one. Even if it is exactly $100 difference in price, you will sell the flawless phone instantly if priced right.

In regards to selling a phone with AC+ vs. without AC+, there is no point. Someone can get a refund for AC+ right after they sell you the phone and most people know that, so having AC+ doesn't really help in the second hand market

Probably but if we are assuming his AC+ is about to run out, then we are talking about a 6s/6s Plus. To me I'd rather just list it $100 cheaper than they are going for in great condition than try to commit fraud.

The buyer should demand that AC+ is transferred to his name when he buys the phone. That should make it worth more.

Agreed. I would probably go $150 less just to push it out the door ASAP.

I don't think people actually do that though. In fact, I have never even heard of anyone doing this. I know it is possible, but I just have never seen or heard of it actually being done.

Not to mention that the OP's intention to commit fraud is now on record ............... for ever ! (google is your friend ?)

Curious why you'd be willing to pay $99 for a new phone when a battery replacement under AC+ is $0 and only $79 OoW.

Unless you just really want an entirely new phone?

Applecare would replace the device with a new, or like-new replacement. However, I would urge you not to do this unless your device is already damaged or malfunctioning in some way. Apple does have some of the best service out there, especially for a smartphone, and if everyone did stuff like this, their service would be more expensive and lower quality.

Hi all, OP here. The main reason is because I bought the iPhone 7 used and it came with Apple Care (runs out next year). I had the Genius Bar check it and the Apple Care hasn't been used at all. I know I can disinfect it with alcohol and what not but I would feel better just having a refurbished phone than one where you don't know what the previous owner did with it.

There was NEVER a period where Apple would give you a replacement phone for a defective one or otherwise.

Awake up and banish the notion this ever was possible.

Now if you had a problem and Apple decided to do this...that's up to them to decide. But it was never a condition you could point at and say "This entitles me to a replacement phone..."

You are stuck with that phone unless you decide to sell it and get another one.

Maybe next time, get the IUP...

This makes no sense whatsoever. Basically you said you just want to take advantage of the warranty. Then you say you want to disinfect it with alcohol because you bought it used. Now you want another phone so you won’t know where it came from or who handled it. It’s something wrong with you?
