I've tried several times on several browsers to contact my U.S. Senators for the State of Texas, but the form at both USGov and their own personal web sites are not going through. An error is produced:

Wondering if they turn the spigot off when the **** starts flowing in? :p Anyone else seeing this? Thanks!

Hmmm... must be Texas, the sites for Sens. McCain and Flake appear to work.

Keep in mind that you're better off making a phone call or sending a letter. No one cares about emails and messages from a web-form.

FYI, in the past I've had every email sent earn a letter response to me.

A Congressional aide explained to me that a letter represents 1,000 people with an opinion about an issue, a phone call is the equivalent of 100, and an email is worth 10. A web-form from Change.org or the equivalent is basically worthless.

I'm not saying to stop contacting your Congress critters, I'm just saying that different staffs weigh communication tools differently.

If I want to contact my Congress critter, I just bug their Communication Director, but I'm in a rarified position.

It's for this very reason that I don't preface the letters I write to my congressman with "dear stupid, whom I hope gets crabs and then dies of crabs cuz you're dumb" anymore.

If they are referencing the amount of fervor involved, that's just plain stupid. I'm one person, expressing my feelings with them via text. In the modern age, it makes little sense to use snail mail.

I think this is an extreme oversimplification.

Depending on your congressman, it's the message that matters, not the delivery method.

I've met with mine on numerous occasions, and it really hasn't gotten me very far. I'm pretty sure if I wrote Ted Cruz 1,000 letters they would be just as worthless in his eyes as 1 email from me.

Huntn, are you still having issues? I'm in Texas also, so I can try. What link are you using?

Thanks for the offer! :) Go to http://www.senate.gov/states/TX/intro.htm, select John Cornyn, select email which will produce a contact form (https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/public/?p=ContactForm) and give it a shot. Tell him how you feel about fracking or the rolling back of Dodd-Frank provisions in the last Budget deal. :) So far I view any correspondence with Cruz to be a complete waste of time, but I may do so anyway if I can resolve this. Actually I should see if his contact form works. Will report back.

I've tried this on Firefox, Safari, and Chrome getting the same error as previously described in all cases. I also contacted the webmaster and have been told the issue was reported and that it could possibly be a MS Word issue, except I don't use Word and would not be using it to fill in a web form.

No problems here, it goes through and I've received responses in a reasonable amount of time.

Who are you contacting? Curious if you don't mind revealing.

Contradictory statement. What matters is who receives your message; which depends entirely on the delivery method. Nothing beats face to face as that is the only method that guarantees delivery to the intended victim :D.

I'd be more inclined to share, but the immature clique of haters that launch personal attacks without consequence, without regard for forum rules, without the self respect to stay on topic and participate without vitriol, discourage an intelligent exchange.

We all make mistakes from time to time, yet the select few are welcome to launch nefarious assaults on one's character in a Carte Blanche manner.

(the above is only my opinion / experience, not a complaint of any sort :))

I asked because I'm trying to figure out if you are contacting the same person I am without having the issue versus someone else, that's all. If the problem is at USGov or somewhere more localized. Don't worry about it.

Mine went through without problem. I'll let you know how he responds!

And I agree. Pretty much any contact with Cruz is a waste of time. Including meeting with him face to face. But I do it anyway. :D

I must have a local issue. I've tried it on my Mac on multiple browsers, now I'll try on my PC. If both of those fail, then I've got a local issue , either through Suddenlink or possibly my router? Thanks for taking the time and the report! :)

mine are completely worthless. They have made it pretty clear if you did not vote for them in the primary they do not care about you.

    ----------

yep. Cruz is a prim example of what is wrong with the primary being the real election.
We get classical Tea Idiots like him who more or less do not care about you unless it gets him an extra vote in the primary.

I have a congressman who is has said that. Joys in living in Texas. Far to many Tea idiots representing us.

Are the Senators or House Members ones that will no longer be in office? I can't sent a online message to Dr. Paul Broun but was able to send one to Rob Woodard. Broun is leaving office.

    Seems to be working. Weird.

I'm just telling you what someone at a national office told me and I think there's some sense there. (Note, when I say web-form, I don't mean using their website, I'm talking about something like Change.org, etc. which automates sending emails about various causes. Sorry I was being unclear).

Probably is. And, you bring up an interesting issue that at some point a representative may just ignore you, or at least appear to, but there are other people pushing at him, not to mention ideology and money.

Weird. (MS Word thing just seems nonsensical.)

Over the years, I have contacted many senators and representatives. Usually by email. Sometimes phone or snail mail. I can't think of a single time I didn't get some kind of reply. Jody Hice is already returning calls and he's not sworn in yet.

A 500 error is a “server-side” error. Something is wrong with the server hosting the website, e.g, an error usually caused by (server) configuration issues, system permissions, a script timing out, or from a "bad" script that causes an error, etc.

In other words, a 500 error is like one of those (very general in nature) messages you occasionally saw on your TV set back in times gone by that looked like this:

Thanks for clarifying, I go to their web site and fill in the contact form there.
