Apple has continually pushed itself into securing your data and life more and more. Apple currently sells people encryption, privacy, healthcare, fall detection, and satellite sos etc. I think they are now aligning their technology towards comprehensive home security, access and control by developing their rumored home companion device. Apple will use its existing computer vision technology, neural engines, home kit partners, and large well funded customer base to launch this home companion device and their target market will be home security. Apple already has built the satalite sos relay station to connect your sos messages to local law enforcement services.. Next they will use this facility to monitor the security of your home. Directly competing with ADT and other home security providers, but doing it the Apple way. 100% hardware software integration (except leveraging home kit partners for the sensors) and your data securely stored in Apples secure cloud services and home companion device.

Has anyone else thought about this? It seems obvious to me, meanwhile at lot of people are talking about this being something kitchen device or some glorified wall iPad. This I think is much greater than that. Apple is taking on home security as a major new business for them.

If you want my opinion, I think it’s going to be nothing more than a budget friendly watered down (less than glorified) iPad, made from parts of older iPads, much like the iPhone SE.

What I believe is that they’re trying to get more people interested in HomeKit to increase interest in hardware sales like the HomePods or rumored indoor camera by selling old hardware. Not expecting much from this thing.

As of now, HomeKit is still very buggy after so many years and home security with HomeKit is nothing more than a novelty. They need to take HomeKit seriously first and fix all its issues. I feel like the HomeKit developers are summer interns. Like the potato peelers before moving up to cash register (iOS).

If what you believe is true and they are aligning towards Home security, they’re way behind the curve. A wall or counter mounted “iPad” by itself is not enough. Need more devices/sensors capable of home security type things. The HomePod failed because the market was already saturated with smart speakers and it was expensive. I think they learned a valuable lesson and Apple needs to step it up to be competitive.

Yes, I will be buying it because I’m a sucker for Apple hardware and HomeKit lol.
