Reading about this they're saying AOC is the one who brought about the Amazon U-turn due to the dubious tax breaks at cost to NYC taxpayer. Is this the first example of AOC doing good for the American people?

I’m tired of these ******** “great man” (in this case woman) narratives being woven into our history. AOC was an advocate, but it was the organized resistance of the people on the ground that turned this around.

Pinning it to one leader subverts the American people’s understanding of the power they hold when they organize together and call out ******** for what it is.

Which is exactly why the reporting is framed upon the shoulders of one person. Our corporate overlords don’t want genuine movements taking hold here to push back on them.

She embodies the philosophy underneath the movement. While it’s certainly not her fault alone, she’s one of the most vocal voices.

I’ll gloss over the “fault” comment. Obviously she’s a high profile figure, but it was the sustained activism of local people on the ground for months that made this happen. She was a key ally in bringing resistance to Lord Bezos’s corporate welfare package, but she was not the cause of his slinking away.

She wants all jobs to be government jobs. Socialists want to control everything, only allowing private ownership and management of entities when they meet their needs.
You’ve got your script reversed. Replace “socialist” with “tax evading corporate behemoths” and “private” with “public” and you’ll get the real story of America.

Democrats, get your party in order. Amazon pulling out of NYC is only the first of "fruit" from AOC. Radical ideas and followers of AOC will ensure Trump being reelected.

Why?

All those "fly over" states are sure to vote for Trump, fearing the radical left wanting to change the country to their socialist vision.

Plus, it almost guarantees a 3rd party liberal will run like Bloomberg or Howard Schultz. This will fracture moderate and radical Democrats.
Do you live in NYC? Because I will tell you that many were against Amazon moving in. This has nothing to do with socialism. Or liberals.

They lost a potential 25 k jobs along with it
Yes. Unfortunate. Extremely. But at what cost to our already burdened infrastructure, the housing market, etc.

Pros and Cons on both sides

3 billion in subsidies. Wonder how long to recoup that?

Is this based on the idea that these companies aren’t the biggest tax cheats on the planet? They’d get another package as soon as they threaten to pick up and leave, regardless of whatever deals they’ve made in the past.

Honoring your deals is for us little people, exclusively.

No I got that, I was pushing back on the inevitable “well actually” post that’s sure to pop up soon citing whatever agreement Amazon on paper. These companies are too powerful to be held to whatever agreements they make.

I'm not from NYC, see my location under my avatar.

Unpacking this, two thoughts.

- I agree with not giving tax subsidies to corporate interests, including business and sport team stadium hand outs. The problem is the cat is out of the bag, and there will aways be other locales that will do it. I don't know the answer, but vilifying business is not it.

- AOC amplified the opposition to the Amazon deal. The problem here is that she is anti-business. She and the radical socialists hate all privately owned business. The answer is somewhere in-between. Socialism is bad, all out capitalism is bad. We need adults in our politics, not radicals.
AOC is basically a repackaged FDR (same as Bernie). I would ask you what shifted in America to get people to honestly see common wisdom of yesteryear to be considered “radical”.

Amazon isn't privately owned. It's a public company. Do you mean non-government business?
