I don't have Photoshop. I have a Macbook with iPhoto of course but not sure if the Editing program on iPhoto would work. Can't seem to figure it out. I tried with Drudge Report and a couple of others and when I convert them, they're always WAY too big and blurry.

I just want to be able to drag icons to my Desktop and edit them into the proper dimensions to be uploaded for Webclip Icons.

Can someone recommend an app to do this? An inexpensive one would be great! HA!

Thanks!

You can resize them in Preview. Specify 57x57 pixels.

Thanks so much! Just tried that but it still some out more wide than the shape of an icon. Are there certain measurements for the size as well?

And I've read some sites telling people to go for a much higher PIXEL resolution because it gets shrunk down in the process.

Honestly, download and use the 30 day Photoshop trial

oh and i was thinking, if you want to just cut out a square size u can do this with crop in iphoto, using the square constraint and then resize it to 57x57 in preview

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I drag the DRUDGE REPORT logo off of the site onto my desktop. Then I try to shrink it to fit in a square and it just won't fit. I'm sure it's so much easier that I think but I'm stuck.

in preview, did you try to make it so that the sides were proportional, then it would not have worked

And just how, exactly, are you going to upload your PNG file to the root directory of the drudge report's servers? You must be some kind of a crazy hacker!

In all seriousness though, what are you trying to do exactly? You cannot make your own web clip icons for use on the iPhone 1.1.3 firmware unless you are a webmaster for that site. I'm sorry to say that you've just been wasting your time--unless I am completely misunderstanding what you are trying to do here.

Yeh, as the above person just said, did you know that you actually have to be the webmaster of the site? and actually upload it onto the web server..

Maybe yours is actually trying to get a webclip of the page in Safari.

You keep posting this link everywhere but it doesn't help if we can't first SIZE the IMAGE.

Do you know how to do that?

Like with the DRUDGE REPORT logo?

The website works, just find a picture that fits, it might take a few tries but it's a hell of a lot quicker than trying to edit and crop pictures. I made about 20 icons for my home screen and they all look great, go to Google Images and choose "Medium Image Sizes". Most of them will work.

Be patient, I'm posting the link because it worked, try it out instead of worrying about photoshop.

Easiest solution ever to creating the icon for a website...
1. Go to the website and find the header image or whatever you want the icon to be.
2. Press Apple-Shift-4 and your mouse ptr will turn into a crosshairs
3. Drag a square over the image you want that webclip to be, making sure it's nearly a perfect square. This will put a PNG file on your desk.
4. Go to that HSIcon website and upload that image...
5. That's all...

Easiest solution ever and it takes like 45 seconds!

From what I understand you don't have to have access to the website. You can use sites like www.webclip.us to use any icon for any website.

yea, just do what i have been doing for custom webclips, creating pages, bookmarking them, and then editing the pages to be re-directs

I am not a hacker! I can't even resize an icon! HA!

I was just wanting an image to put into hsicon.com and then redirect. Seems to be the easiest way when I can find an image.

I forgot that you could do this. Great Idea!!

I still think that if you want to customize it at all that your best bet is the Trial of Photoshop, or using pixelmator
