Ahh the 5c...when making phones out of “cheap and s****y plastic” suddenly became ok!

These phones had flair, and colors are a huge selling point for consumers. Regardless of the whole ‘plastic’ argument, solid phone the whole way around.

It was so popular in Japan back then, I would see one on every train ride I took. Their differentiation model is better now but I really loved its structural metal heft even when if it has plastic backing.

The most embarrassing iPhone Apple made. I remember 5s and 5c side by side and couldn't believe both came from the same company. I bet Apple regrets it now. And the crocs case was just the cherry on top.

hon 5c. Never forget.

To be fair it had really cool colours though. I’m so glad they did the XR. I feel that will age much better but only the 5C and XR had such stunning coloursss

as for the worst iPhone ever, that would probably be the 8 plus lol
Why do you think the 8+ was the worst iPhone?

probably the most misunderstood iPhone. My students loved it, though. Apple couldn't make enough iPhone 5 cases, so when the 5s was coming out, there was no way they could make enough 5s and 5's at the same time. repackaging the 5 into a bright, vibrant, durable plastic was a great decision. Analysts continued to call it a flop, but combining the 5 and 5c showed into one category showed tremendous sales.

I've wondered if an iPhone XE (aka, the mini) with this plastic casing wouldn't be massively popular.

Was that a particular issue just related to 5/5s model line for some reason? Seems like Apple didn't run into that with 4/4s, 6/6s, etc.

Great phone... gave it to a cousin. After exchanging batteries from two iPhone SE1 ones, I think that 5C would perform pretty well with a new battery.

I love this phone because the size and the curved plastic back make it one of the most comfortable phone to use.

Entering the pin and password every time were annoying though, that’s why I upgraded to the 5S.

The proto- iPhone XR. The plastic actually looked good and it was way more svelte than the XR monstrosity, especially the white color, but performance wise it was pretty nerfed.

Even on iOS 10, their final update, the iPhone 5c (and 5 for that matter) still offer really solid performance. It was by that point that Apple decided not to play the games they did with the iPhone 4S and A5 devices on iOS 9.

Ah Johnny Ive's - Unapologetically Plastic

I was going to say exactly this! I always liked the green one at the time, really vibrant!

My mum still uses a blue one for Spotify in the kitchen and my daughter has inherited an old yellow one from her Nan that she likes to mess with!

Hard to believe, but when this phone came out, it actually outsold Android flagship phones.

Probably the worst iPhone ever, putting on it a 1-year old chip at almost flagship price at the time was a weird move.
5S was wayyyy better for not so much more money
It wasn’t at flagship price. It was at the usual $100 less that the regular iPhone 5 would’ve been priced. It followed the usual trend as the previous years.

Such a great little phone.. They really should have made this the SE line.
This is a horrible little phone. It wasn't even an upgrade. They literally just took an old phone and put a plastic casing on it and then resold it a year later.

It wasn't meant to be an upgrade, but just a way to keep on selling the previous model phone (iPhone 5) after the new model came out, similar to how it's basically always done (just in that particular case the outer case of the previous model was changed).
