So here's my current setup.
Airport Express is connected to my cable modem via ethernet.
I then connect my Mac Mini and my ibook to Airport Express wirelessly.
I like to play Xbox 360 online, so I found a forum that showed me how to hook the 360 up to the Mac Mini via ethernet in order to share the Mini's wireless signal
My issues are that my 360 often won't connect to the internet for whatever reason (I don't have to make any changes to the setup, but sometimes the connection works, and sometimes it doesn't)
Also, although I'm supposed to receive a cable feed up to 6MB/second via the modem, in reality, my download speeds rarely reach even 1MB/second.
I realize that everything is only as strong as the weakest link, in this case the Airport Express.
I'm considering buying the Airport Extreme, but I'm not sure it will do what I need, so I'm hoping somebody can confirm for me. I'd like to buy the Extreme, and hook up the Mini and the 360 into the Extreme's ethernet ports.
I'll then use the Express only to stream music to my stereo. Is this what the ethernet ports on the Extreme are for? Will my Mini and the 360 then receive much faster downloads and connect to the internet more reliably since they are wired into the internet and they don't relay on Airport Express? I realize that my ibook internet connection won't be any better, but I'm hoping the Mac Mini connection will be much faster because I do most of my downloading through the Mini.
I have my Mini hooked up to my HDTV, so I can only assume it will pay off in the future to have a faster connection.
For those familiar with the 360, will I then be able to stream the music from my Mac Mini through the 360? I can't do so currently because the 360 is using the Mini's internet feed.
Thanks,
Ed
