Jia Yueting, the billionaire founder and CEO of Chinese internet video site Leshi TV (LeTV), has compared Apple to the Nazis in a poster teasing the launch of LeTV's new smartphone. The image was posted to Yueting's verified Weibo page (with more than 5 million....http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/27/8298999/apple-hitler-china-letv-jia-yueting

I just saw this. Pretty sad and tasteless. It's also trivializing the enormity of the crimes committed under the Nazi regime.

And notice how much their purported new phone looks like an iPhone....

This is sad! Yueting has to be delusional to even think this way, let alone posting something like that. Sad, Sad, Sad!

It's obviously a joke and an advertising gimmick.

    What's the big deal?

So Chinese schools don't teach the Holocaust well?

    This isn't a funny joke.

Anything up to 20m Chinese died during the Japanese occupation, followed by another 6m or so in the second act of the civil war. There's only room for so much misery on the school syllabus.

It's not supposed to be funny. It's a metaphor. Apple dictates the technical world as Hitler dictated Germany, forcing everyone to conform to everything Apple because Apple only works with Apple. Apple phones, pads, computers, tvs, pods are all comptible with eachother, and if you have one that doesn't fit your screwed. You are either pure Apple or you are screwed.

It's almost like Apple was trying to rule the technical world.

This actually would have been more clever a few years ago. Apple's OS is becoming more and more compatible with 3rd party OS's, such as Microsoft.

I think this is hilarious because it's so true. Good job marketing team.

Ios is really locked down compared to other OSs and I really like my phone being able to terminal what I want it to do and customize everything and change settings that apple users will never be able to change.

and for people moaning about the nazis crimes and holocaust, they are far FAR from the worst things that have happened. Pretty bad, but not nearly as ****ed up as some other things that happened.

And it’s a terribly offensive one. People bring up Hitler arguments when they just want to tar their opponents with an ad hominem or a non squirter because their arguments aren’t good enough to stand on their own.

There is plenty of valid criticisms that can be made of Apple and their policies. One doesn’t need to invoke images of one of histories most notorious dictators and genocidal murderers to bring such criticisms to light. To do so makes light of the plights of the victims of actual crimes.

No, but we shouldn’t lessen their impact by making a gross comparison with a private company that people voluntarily associate with. Protecting your own ecosystem that you developed is way off base to the murder of millions of innocent people.

He's claiming Hitler is 132-years-old and CEO of the world's most valuable corporation.

    OK.

Apple doesn't force anyone to do anything. They created a closed ecosystem of products that people are free to buy into if they wish, or not. Completely the opposite of a violent dictator...

Bull, it's a bad analogy. Whatever Apple rules is enabled by its customers. Their technical standard is pushed by one thing popularity. And tech companies as most corporations don't see eye to eye with their competition due to philosophical and technical difference of opinion as well as proprietary standards, would you expect anything else?

In the Federal Elections of 31 July 1932, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei gained 13,745,680 votes, or over 37% of votes cast. Almost double the number of votes cast for the second placed Social Democratic Party.

It's called a metaphor for a reason. Do any of you have a mind of your own, or is it just "Hitler bad; He killed people; that's not same!" ?

By the way, since we're being literal, nothing is factually atrocious. In fact, that is factually impossible.

The difference though is that anyone who doesn't want to be a part of apples ecosystem is free to do so. How free of the Nazis are the Germans who didn't vote for them?

    ----------

It's got nothing to do witht the fact that he killed people. It's just that Hitler dictated a country, however Apple does not dictate the technical world as you previously said.

"Showing some class" seems to be a foreign concept there. And the authorities could care less about things like slander and false advertising, so long as such business practices do not directly harm the interests of the Communist Party.

I mean, if this same dipstick Chinese CEO called some Google or Facebook exec a "dirty Jew"…. he'd totally get away with it. And the authorities would care? Not one bit.

Business ethics is primitive in China. Like 40 years behind the rest of the Western nations.

Well, millions killed by Nazi... But billions killed by religion, capitalism, egoism, ignorance and greed. Just wait until the droughts come & water levels are rising. And in the middle of this, we have a ****ed up Russia that threatens other countries with nuclear war. The world is only getting better.

And yes, Apple is in the middle of this ****, a role model for capitalism, egoism and greed. Now, let's buy the iWatch.

Which billions have been killed by "capitalism"? Are you sure you didn't mean communists (and even they didn't kill billions).
