What disturbed me most about this article was that iTunes users were more likely to drink cider than any other form of alcohol.

I thought Apple fans had taste.

i was going to comment on the same point.

i think it's tongue-in-cheek (=Apple juice) either by the journalist, the research company or by the people interviewed.

    looking through rose-tinted spectacles...
I forgot that in the US, cider could just be apple juice; I was dreadfully disappointed going through Vermont to discover that free cider tasting wasn't that exciting. In the UK, it's only really used to describe the alcoholic version which doesn't always bear much resemblance to apples.

Tongue in cheek sounds much better; some of those other characteristics were odd too. Most iTunes users are 12-17 years old and most iTunes users have a Volkswagen or Audi... And yes, I do know that the segments aren't mutually inclusive, statistically speaking

    One word: Podcasts.

Their popularity is going through the roof since Apple integrated them into iTunes. I spend much more time browsing podcasts than I do music these days.

"about 14% of the net's active population are regularly using the iTunes service."

Now THAT is impressive. I'd heard about 14% accessing iTunes last year... I didn't realize it was REGULAR usage. That's nearly 1 in 6 Internet users.

More customers means more Mac sales down the road. And how about the occasional users? Add them in, plus all those Mac and iPod owners who do NOT use the music store (relying on CDs). Now you've got a big chunk of Internet users who already Apple customers. 1/5? 1/4? I don't know--but more than 1/6.

And Apple customers can become Mac customers very easily.

These are stats that bode well for the Mac platform.

Now... to add to the mystery of the 12-year-old alcoholics, the Apple juice, and the Cupertino Kool-Aid:

    I'm just saying.

iTunes is great, but I have a few complaints.

1.) Auditioning tracks is too short. I want to hear a majority of the track, not 30 seconds.

2.) How about increasing the bit size to 320.

3.) Get more independent labels. I'd buy more music, but I'm not the into popular music and that appears to be most of what they have.

I'd like to see iTunes hook-up with Digitally Imported, so we can get newly released martial much faster and some DJ mixes. It would be great if you could listen to internet radio and then click and buy the song you're listening to or the mix.

I read about this somewhere else. The actual survey said "hard cider" which means alcoholic cider.

Since this article is from the BBC and cider-UK = cider-with-alcohol, I guess the writer dropped the "hard" as unnecessary.

Cider would make sense for younger people as they often haven't developed a taste for the finer things, like vino.

Maybe hard cider this generation's wine cooler? And does anyone still drink Zima?

Zima? Wow, haven't heard of that in a while.

For me, it went like this. High School we drank Milwaukee’s best, Budweiser, MGD, Coors Light, wine coolers and whiskey. I remember sitting down with one of my best friends with a bottle of Jack Daniels. We were 16 and we kept doing shots until neither one of us could do anymore. We stopped at 15 shots. That was a crazy night.

College we graduated to Heineken, Becks, Guinness, Anchor Steam Skip-n-go-nakes, purple passion, tequila shots and pretty much anything to get you and your date annihilated.

After college it became martini's, wine, cocktails with premium alcohol Guinness and Anchor Steam.

I’m Irish, what can I say.

That could be written a little better: "Between December 2004 and December 2005 the number of people going to the site grew from 6.1 million to 20.7 million." There, now it doesn't imply that there was a three hundred percent increase in a month.

    And on a sidenote:

The BEAST! It hits the spot when your wallet can handle nothing better.
