Has anyone had any luck with BTO models being in stock in NY or SF, either with apple or elsewhere?

I’m looking for Apple MacBook Air M2 Midnight 16GB RAM & 512GB.

There's some 512GB models available in the Bronx, but midnight color options are generally all supremely backlogged.

The Apple stores originally received the 8/256/8-core GPU models, the 8/512/10-core GPU models, and a few got some 16/1TB/10-core GPU models. I've been monitoring the Chicago area for more of the 16/1TB/10 models, but haven't seen anything come up since they launched.

I would just order online. CTO orders seem to be arriving faster than Apple's estimates, at least for initial orders.

I was hoping to pick one up whilst I’m in the US - big saving compared to the UK prices! No luck finding any though.

Wow, just last Sunday, July 24, most stores in Manhattan have the base models and I picked up the 8-10 8GB 512 version at the 5th AVE store.

Before going there, the 512 option wasn't shown online and call-in rep did not say they have any.
So, if you're near the 5th or Grand Central area, may be worth going and see.

The New York stores seem to be getting a handful of 16GB/1TB models in stock. My advice is to download the Inventory Watch app. If you see one in stock, go online right away and book a pickup order. You have 7 days to pick it up.

Yes, they do although the color you are looking for might not currently be in stock.
thanks! I have asked and asked and they keep saying no.. so settled on a 512, 8gb midnight today! lol... long story short - I ordered a BTO 16gb, Fedex apparently delivered it earlier this week and I never got it.... SO apple refunded my order... lol- can't wait another 3 weeks 😆

Most store stock the 8/10 16gB 1Tb version in Space Gray and Midnight but they disappear very quickly which is why that Inventory Watch app is useful.

I thought I was the only person who Fedex ‘delivers’ to while not actually delivering my packages to me! I can’t tell you how many times this has happened in the past few years. Does make me wary about ordering a computer and having it delivered. I might have one shipped to a nearby Apple Store for pickup. Really love the look of this midnight color…and the thinness. Good luck! I’m torn between 16GB RAM and more storage vs 32 RAM and less storage…

My biggest issue is since covid, they just seem to completely avoid even trying to get a signature anymore. They just drop it at the door and leave, these aren't cheap

A couple weeks ago my wife had an insulin pump coming, they didn't give her any tracking information or a delivery date. We are 10 minutes from leaving for the day and suddenly we hear someone drop a package at the door and leave, didn't even ring the doorbell. $8000 insulin pump and supplies in a massive box just dropped at the door.

Another fun one is when ups tracking suddenly just comes to a halt at a random location with no more updates and ups has no clue either and suddenly its dropped at your door when the tracking says its across the country still lol

I had a 8/8/16/512 Midnight on BTO order, for delivery sometime around Aug 28th. Last week, while taking a break at work, I popped onto the Apple Store and selected the 8/10/16/1TB Midnight option and noticed that the stock indicator showed one available locally. It was more than I wanted to spend, but with the Education discount (thanks to my wife working at our kiddo's school), I was able to swing it. Plus I was concerned that the 512 might eventually be too small for my ever increasing photo library.. and let's face it, I didn't want to wait a month, so I snagged it.

No regrets -- had I not been able to buy this M2, I would have just "settled" for the 14" 16/512 M1 Pro I'd gotten from Best Buy a few days earlier. Don't get me wrong, the Pro is a stellar machine, but it's too damned thick and thirsty -- portability and battery life being the most import considerations for me when making this particular purchase.

Long story short - the 8/10/16gig/1TB versions of these machines appear to be arriving to stores somewhat consistently, but in very small quantities. So they sell out in hours, if not minutes. 4 stores in my area had them in stock @ around 3pm the day I found my copy, and by the time I got to the Apple Store to pick up my order @ 5pm, all of the other available units throughout the area had sold.

That is insane! Yes, I haven’t been asked for a signature for anything delivered by either Fedex or UPS in years—even for packages for which i have specifically requested ‘signature required.’ And for exactly the concern of an expensive item being delivered and not even being notified. I have now started to use the various services’ tracking features and get text updates. Sometimes, I’ll receive a text that a delivery has been made—and they haven’t even buzzed my apartment. If not for the text message, I’d have no idea the package was sitting out in my building lobby...5 floors away from me.

My ’favorite’ experience is when I receive a message that delivery was ‘attempted’ but ‘refused by recipient,’ when no such thing has happened. Ha.

I’m glad that you were there to receive the medical supplies!
