Apple updated its Apple Pay participating issuers list today with 24 additional banks, credit unions and financial institutions supporting the contactless payment service in the United States. Apple Pay now has nearly 250 participating issuers nationwide, and several hundred more plan to support the NFC-based mobile payment service in the future.

The full list of new Apple Pay participating issuers is reflected below, although it's worth noting that some banks, credit unions and financial institutions listed may have already had support for the contactless payments service for quite some time and are only now being reflected on Apple's website.

The full list of new Apple Pay participating issuers:
Bellwether Community Credit Union
Benchmark Federal Credit Union
Blackhawk Community Credit Union
Community America Credit Union
Community First Credit Union
Connections Credit Union
cPort Credit Union
Denver Fire Department FCU
Electro Savings Credit Union
Elements Financial FCU
First Financial Credit Union
Greater Nevada Credit Union
Harvard Universities Employees Credit Union
Interra Credit Union

Nusenda Credit Union
People's Trust Federal Credit Union
Premier America Credit Union
Premier Members Federal Credit Union

Apple Pay remains available in the United States only, although Apple is committed to an international rollout of the mobile payments service in additional countries such as Canada, China and the United Kingdom. Canada, a well-prepared candidate for Apple Pay, could be the first country to embrace the service outside of the United States as early as November according to The Wall Street Journal.

Apple pay actually works in Canada in my experience, but doesn't support Canadian cards. At least, shopper's drug mart in Toronto supports it.

Yeah and it's great :) - Signature isn't required anymore for my US signature credit cards. Saves more time up here than it does in the states because cashiers are frequently confused when the register prompts for signature.

Just tried with my PayPal business debit (Bancorp as well), and it failed.
Maybe they'll roll it out at some point.

Only works with credit cards issued by a US bank. Then it will work pretty much anywhere in the world that accepts NFC payments.

Lots of issuers. Not so many acceptors.

Vendors are required to switch to chip in card readers by the end of this year (and most will also carry the NFC reader). Therefore technically, the problem will go away by the end of they year. In reality, however, you have companies like walmart and homedepot that already have the readers but have disabled them. My hope is this gets worked out very quickly, otherwise, I suspect we will see a change in shopping habits (as in many people when given the choice will naturally shop where it is more convinient).

Pretty sure I excluded Canadian cards by saying they weren't included. Thanks for your correction, should've said U.S.

Glad it works for you... the last two places I used it they asked for ID and they wanted me to sign. I asked what the purpose of my thumb print was. Another time a person asked if that was something new. I said "kind of".

You'd be surprised. For example: I decided to try my watch to pay at a PayPass terminal where I got an oil change last week. Worked like a charm. There was no Apple Pay signage anywhere. I recommend trying anywhere you see a terminal with NFC capability.

Still waiting for my credit union to implement this (they are working on it); especially now that I have my Apple Watch!
Eager to try this feature at several places I regularly shop with.

Yay! Been waiting for my Simple.com card to finally be accepted, but it is strange that the Paypal Business Debit card (which is the only other card that I have and actually use the most for over a decade) isn't accepted; being that it's issued by the exact same bank as the Simple card. Must be due to that feud that Apple and Paypal still have going on?

Minor note: switching to chip is not required. It's simply a good idea for many stores because, if a crook has to use a chip card via mag swipe, because the store has no chip reader, then the store is liable.

If it's just a mag stripe only card ... like most still are and will be for some time in the US... then the store is not liable for fraud because a chip reader would not have helped.

Many smaller businesses with little history of fraud (e.g. a sewing shop) might not bother to upgrade. This was the case in Canada at first, too, with about 20% of small stores choosing not to update right away.

What's the highest price you've paid this way? Signature isn't required for NFC payments below a certain amount. I forget what that limit is in Canada. $50 maybe? I'm sure someone will know.

Minor point, but very valid. Thank you. You are right that in my mind the liability makes it required since I don't want the added liability. But it is a choice and some will choose to gamble. But your statement makes sense that it will likely be limited to the smaller businesses. I cannot see the big stores taking on the risk given the potential liability. Using your statement if we can get to 80% by the end of the year it would be fantastic. Now all we have to do is get those 80% to actually turn on the NFC.

Still no E*Trade Bank...

Lots of Credit Unions... Anybody know why?

This is speculation on my part, but most credit unions are fairly small compared to commercial banks and as a result use third-party firms to handle their back-end systems.

My guess is one of these third parties completed THEIR Apple Pay integration and was able to offer the service to the Credit Unions that are their customers.
