iPad Pro Apple Pencil 2 squeaking/screeching on iPad Pro 12.9

I have very lightly used my Apple Pencil 2 for during the last 18 months, on my iPad Pro 11 (2018), then my iPad Pro 11 (2020) and now my iPad Pro 12.9 (2020).

I haven’t had a single issue using the Pencil on either iPP 11, and both wore a Celicious Matte screen protector.

This last weekend i picked up my new 12.9 and have begun to use my Pencil with it and notice a sharp and high-pitched squeaking/screeching sound being emitted when the nip makes contact with the screen.

The 12.9 was naked when i first noticed this, and following receipt and application of a Celicious Matte screen protector, the noise is still present.

However, when i connect the Pencil to my 11 (2018), the noise isn’t present at all and no amount of scrolling/swiping/contact can replicate the sound.

I have read suggestion that the lack of finger oils on a new screen /screen protector can cause this, but i have never experienced this before on my 11’s, and seemingly the reports suggesting this are all relating to the 12.9.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for your reply, but it seems that the thread you have sent is only related to scratches upon the iPad chassis caused by the magnets connecting the Pencil to the iPad.

My concern is regarding a high-pitched squeaking/screeching sound when using the Pencil on the iPad display to write/scroll/swipe etc.

I have done this today.

Have been advised to return the iPP to the store for a replacement. Am annoyed by this as i applied a new screen protector yesterday- with zero bubbles/dust particles

It always hurts more when you have to give up that perfect screen protector install.

Probably late to the game here but mine is doing the same thing. Instead of replacing the iPad (which is flawless outside of that pencil screech) I bought a clear silicon nib for the pencil which completely stopped the sound from happening.

The pencil works flawlessly as well with the silicon nip and the best part is there no more screeching sound.

Here’s what I bought...
