Can't say any of us in the UK will notice. Nor care.

For many years now, unlike the US, the UK (and indeed, the ROTW) has not been engulfed by iPhone worship. At least half the market is Android. So because multi-platform compatibility is 100% essential to us, we use apps like Snapchat, WhatsApp, Messenger and Discord.

(EDIT: What completely killed-off the default Messages app over here is the fact that using Messages to send multimedia (such as photos) to Android users isn't included in the cost of our mobile plans, so we get charged separately for them like it's still 2006. Whereas WhatsApp and Messenger (etc) use the internet, so sending multimedia messages is essentially free, or more accurately, pre-paid.)

The UK (and indeed, the ROTW) is not engulfed in iPhone worship like the US is, even less since last year's international price hikes which only Americans escaped. Because multi-platform is 100% essential we use Snapchat, WhatsApp, Messenger and Discord. I can't tell you the last time I used the messaging app or FaceTime because nearly everyone I know is on Android. I'm saying 'nearly': I actually can't name another person I know with an iPhone.

stats say something else for UK =)
edit: hmm, but if you check North Korea.... I'm not sure if these stats are accurate xD

Regarding UK government and what they want from Apple is quite funny: "Give us some backdoor or lower the security". lmao

Apple has to run the Company not the UK
If the UK is not happy with encryption, security and privacy then Apple has every right to discontinue features. Unfortunately the customer will suffer

I’m sure the government of the UK appreciates that

Whatsapp is completely not secure, I mean it’s run by the Zuck for Pete’s sakes

iMessage is where it’s at, session is also pretty good, but with the google OS running on androids plus whatsapp usage with that demographic, I just don’t send them anything outside of “how’s the weather” or “happy new years”

Stats don't tell the real story for various reasons. But even if they represented reality, with a 47% chance you will be engaging with an Android user there is little point using iPhone-only communication tools.

Apple might have some valid reasons, but I don't like it when big companies think they can just bypass or influence a country's laws, like when Google and Meta decide they didn't want to pay publishers for their news. Apple says they're doing it to keep people safe, but that's what the government wants to do as well.

That's actually just 'Apple Fanboi' fear-mongering rubbish.

iMessage and Facetime are dead in the UK for the reasons already stated: they are iPhone-only communications platforms, and even going by actual statistics, around half the people we would be messaging / video-calling are Android users. In reality that's probably closer to 60% outside of the 'work phone' market, where iPhones are still dominant (hence the skewed statistics).

I doubt this will ever happen. Apple knows it will lose millions of customers if they remove the key features that make the iPhone different to rival manufacturers. Seems like nonsensical fear mongering to me.

I’d say most iPhone users use both iMessage and FaceTime in some capacity even if WhatsApp is the primary messaging app here in the UK. I think this would be a bad move by Apple and one that would drive 15+ million UK iPhone users towards other options. I can’t see this happening at all and yes we would notice if they did it.
