I've been trying to screen record some video and audio using the apple's stock screen recorder (command-shift-5). For some reason the audio isnt recording. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I am not sure if this is compatible with Mojave, but look into soundflower.

Soundflower is a MacOS system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed.

If you're doing this in Quicktime, it's not a problem. That's how it was designed. It's been awhile, but I seem to remember that this had to do with digital rights for movies and such - essentially making high-quality copies of video/dvd's as they are played.
There are lots of other ways to capture screen audio and video. FWIW I gave up on Soundflower years ago, but others have had success with it. I use Camtasia and Screenflow, with great success (they aren't free, though).
