Apple today seeded the fourth public beta of an upcoming watchOS 7 update to public beta testers, one week after seeding the third public beta and just a few days after seeding a new beta to developers.

The watchOS 7 update can be downloaded after installing the proper profile from Apple's Public Beta website. watchOS 7 should not be installed on a primary device as it is still an early beta and there could be bugs, plus there is no way to downgrade back to watchOS 6.

watchOS 7 is a major update that introduces a new Sleep Tracking feature for the Apple Watch, which is designed to measure how long you're asleep as you wear the Apple Watch while sleeping.

It comes along with a Wind Down feature that helps you establish a bedtime routine to make it easier to fall asleep at night, as well as a Sleep Mode that turns on Do Not Disturb and dims the Apple Watch display.

The Apple Watch can also wake you up with haptic vibrations, providing a weather report in the morning as well as info on battery life so you can get your day started.

Along with these sleep tracking features, the Apple Watch has automatic handwashing detection that listens for the sound of running water and handwashing motions and then starts a 20-second timer so you can make sure you're washing your hands for the appropriate amount of time.

A new watch Face Sharing feature lets you share watch faces with others and install new watch faces from the App Store, Messages, Mail, websites, and more.

There's a new Chronograph Pro face with tachymeter, updates to complications, and new workout options in the newly renamed Fitness app, which was previously the Activity app.

The Maps app now supports directions for cyclists, Siri provides spoken translations, and there's a Shortcuts app on the Apple Watch. For more on what's new in watcOS 7, make sure to check out our watchOS 7 roundup.

watchOS 7 is limited to the Apple Watch Series 3, Series 4, and Series 5 models, and is not compatible with the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2.

I wish that Apple would open up the Watch faces to allow for developers to create more unique faces - or Apple needs to work on a broader selection. It’s one area that just feels like they don’t care enough about, or that they think they’ve got enough options.

Unlike with wallpapers on an iPhone that are just some background view that doesn’t do anything, the Watch face IS what you look at to tell the time, which has to be a top function for most people.

I did it now thanks I was using my iPhone 10xs but I forgot Id synced the watch on my iPhone 8 where my music and photos were deleted from. I haven't been able to get alerts from my handwashing perhaps I will now.

I’m having horrible battery life with this version on my 40mm Series 4. Previous Beta 3 seemed fine.

I’m losing ~10% in 15 minutes not doing anything but checking the time. Battery is draining even after turning on airplane mode and deactivating location services. Also did a full erase and restore to no avail.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Some of the internet leakers are saying that the watch might not get a launch event until the second half of October. Hard to know these days, and until there is an official event posting from Apple it is all speculation.
I have to say though, like others, my cellular watch S4 is very happy with this build, but actually none of the watchOS 7 beta builds have been problematic in my experience.

Hi All,

Argh, gutted. So my S2 watch is now off the update list :(

How long will it get security updates for?

Is there a standard apple precedent for devices no longer on the latest Watch OS? IOS?

Regards
Martin

PS:
Nice watch for what I do. 4 years, zero issues.
Still running as “fast” as it ever has 🤣

Why on earth those people are obsessed with GM release and demand Apple to release new products on September? Did they not realise 2020 has already been flipped upside down? The world is no longer what it was in 2019?

Back to watchOS 7 beta, I personally don’t notice any difference. It’s just too bad that I can no longer store more than 3GB of music, making a 16GB watch kinda useless in that regard.

Is this year different from last year, somehow?

No thanks Apple, I'm keeping my Force Touch until I upgrade to Series 6. Stop disabling useful features people actually use.

With this beta, my S3 restarted at least three times since the upgrade this morning. With beta 2/3, I had at least one random restart a day.
To upgrade, I had to wipe, upgrade, restore on this beta. The last beta (3), I didn’t need to?
