As noted by 9 to 5 Mac, Apple has seeded yet another new build of Mac OS X 10.6.4, this one termed Build 10F564, to developers for testing. The new version carries a mysterious increase of 506 numbers since Build 10F58 released one week ago, although it is possible that the new number is the result of a typo and is meant to have been a more reasonable 10F64 number.

Regardless, the new build continues to list no known issues in the update and carries no documentation in its seed notes of additional changes since the last seed. Developers are once again asked to focus their testing on Graphics Drivers, SMB, USB, Voice Over and VPN.

Just release it already, I want those improved graphics drivers. They didn't even change or update anything with this build.

All in good time!

I'm looking for those graphics driver fixes myself. The hope is a snappier MBP (early 2008 model). That and I'm really hoping for a more stable Quicktime movie playback experience.

As it is right now there are two things that bug me about 10.6 on that MBP. One is the slow response to mouse clicks in the GUI sometimes accompanied with a beach ball. The other is Quicktime occasionally hanging up for moments at a time or in one case forcing a reboot.

These are 10.6 specific problems but thankfully 10.6 eliminated most of the problems in 10.5. So I can't go back.

Hopefully we'll see an improvement in the nVidia drivers but with that being said I would sooner a consistent experience rather than hyper-optimised drivers that result in an inconsistent experience when it comes to OpenGL.

I wonder what the hell happened with the build number? For anyone with this update, is the real build 10F64 (meaning that the number listed on the web is just a typo)?

Oh I’d really like to see an improvement in the nVidia drivers. Namely I’d like to see the DVI-output to to my 40” TV to work without constantly blinking on-off . 10.6.3 broke that and now I need to keep running 10.6.2 from a backup… but otherwise I’m not in a hurry .

Seems like it is 'done' and new hardware being released requires it, so they are spending extra time polishing because it doesn't 'need' to be out until the new hardware is.

Graphic drivers in Maya

Oh yeah please update and fix the Maya issues I have in the viewport with Maya 2011. I am very interested to know when could this build be available and the focus on graphic drivers make this a big release for me. I thought it could be a bad install and was thinking to reinstall Maya again, but I started to think the issues are related to the graphic drivers. Fingers crossed.

Funny thing is, that the 3 character build numbers have always been hardware specific, and there were some traces of Fermi in the latest beta...

Personally, I'm rallying for some kind of WWDC conspiracy theory.

I agree completely. Rather than Apple cranking out 500+ builds in short-order, I suggest that the new beta represents a jump to a different branch of code.

This branch is both secret and magical...

Well, if you've been following the Webkit development for a while, Apple has already branched off some code already so there is a new Safari release on the cards, possibly the first version to ship with Webkit2 for developers to try out by Safari still using Webkit1 until Webkit2 is more mature. Oh, and the new Safari branch has Core Animation support which, when released, should result in a better Flash experience.

Last time they were working on "graphics drivers" they introduced much of OpenGL 3 and i noticed significant improvements in speed, to the extent where i previously had to play world of warcraft with nearly all the settings down to half, and can now play it with all the settings except shadow quality maxed out.
You have to think that there's the possibility that steam for mac is causing them to work harder on OpenGL improvements, which I would be very happy about.
They haven't released an implementation of OpenGL 3's shader language, whatever version it is, so that could also be it.
EDIT:
Oh yah, steam for mac provides a rather unique opportunity for apple, namely, easily accessible games for mac users, which results in TONS of people doing all sorts of stuff with OpenGL that previously only a handful did, which means that they may be taking advantage of this and raking in all the error reports as fast as they can so they can work on fixes, this could be a very sexy time for mac graphics drivers :p

This is all related to WWDC of course, we'll probably see a few more seeds containing all the new drivers for new hardware likely to be announced at WWDC (mostly just Mac Pros other than iPhone).

We should see Safari 5 Beta announced along with iTunes 9.2 release to support the new iPhoneOS 4.

I sure hope so I am anticipating a huge release from WWDC.

You shouldn't do that, you're only setting yourself up to be disappointed. Set your expectations to very low, this is how most keynote veterans work after years of watching keynotes.

LOL.. Keynote veterans huh..... That cracked me up. True, but it still cracked me up.

So far I really haven't been let down at any of the past keynotes..... I must subconsciously have very low expectations!

That's the way ;)
Hoping for new Mac mini's and Mac Pro's alongside the iPhone OS 4 and iPhone 4G is too much.
Just stick to the highly anticipated and/or obvious and sit back and relax. Maybe... maybe... you'll get surprised.

...once again, minor things for a minor update...I NEED TRIM...any other SSD users feel my pain.
