I have an iphone 12 that I got in March and paid off my phone already. I pay monthly $9.99 for Apple Care+. Will I be eligible to trade in this for the new iPhone 13? If so what do I pay? I tried to search for this but didn't see it. The pink iPhone 13 intrigues me

If you have paid off the iPhone that you want to trade in now on the new iPhone 13, there should not be any problems. You own that phone now and can do whatever you want with it. Paying Apple Care + is a different issue and different situation. Right now we don't know what the details about, the pricing will be on the new iPhone 13 models, nor the various payment arrangements which may be offered. That info will all be forthcoming on September 14th. Hang in there!

So I basically just buy the new iPhone 13 and not trade it straight up right?

Right now iPhone 12 is not eligible for Apple trade-in, but that may change once the new phones are released. You can keep checking here: https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in.

Once iPhone 12 is eligible, it's a lot easier to do the trade-in at the store (versus mailing it in).

If you already own the iPhone 12 (or an earlier iPhone, for that matter) outright, not tied to any financing arrangement, you can do what you want: either trade in the iPhone 12 on the new iPhone 13 or sell it independently to someone eise or just keep the thing.... it is your iPhone, your choice.

As I already mentioned, the Apple Care+ is a separate issue. Obviously if you are getting rid of your iPhone 12 you aren't going to want to keep paying for Apple Care + on it. I think that there is some arrangement for clearing up that situation or transferring the Apple Care + to a new iPhone at the time of purchase. You'll have to check with Apple to find out just how this does work. We really won't know a lot about a lot of aspects surrounding the trade-in of an old iPhone in order to purchase a new one and also the handling of monthly payments on Apple Care + for the older phone, but it seems logical that with the trade-in of an older phone and the subsequent purchase of a new one that the whole Apple Care + thing will be handled at the same time. We'll all know a bit more on September 14th.....

But you can only trade it in with Apple if it's an eligible device. Right now it's not.

I did not suspect it would be yet since 13 hasn't been released. I keep Apple Care in case something goes wrong. But wasn't sure how the trade-in works so that is the reason for my post.

I was just trying to figure out how this program works.
Once your 12 is eligible for trade in, you can apply that credit to the purchase of a 13 … but only a purchase. You can’t apply credit towards a device on Apple’s “upgrade” program (the installment program that let’s you trade in a prior upgrade device for a new one after 12 payments). Trade-in credit such as what you’re trying to do will only go towards purchases at the Apple Store, I found that out when I paid off my X and traded it in, wanting to get on Apple’s annual upgrade plan, I was able to start a new upgrade plan, but had to use that credit for other stuff at Apple.

You can also check with your carrier, they may also have a trade-in program that let’s you apply that to financing a new device, assuming that you don’t want to make an outright purchase on a 13.

I can just keep my 12 then. Thank you.

If I’m ordering the phone for delivery to my residence and trading in my current phone, can I bring it to my local Apple store to complete the trade-in, instead of sending it in? Is there anything specific I need to do during the order process to indicate an in-store trade-in?

I believe that when doing a preorder/delivery of a new iPhone to your residence that you will receive a box from Apple in which to ship back the older iPhone that you are trading in. The in-store purchase-and-trade-in process and the online preorder/order-and-trade-in process are two different types of transactions.

I got my 11 Pro in store about month after release. I was trading in the X and the store told me that Apple will send me a box to mail it in, or that I can bring it to the store within 14 days to complete the trade-in. Although I received the box within a few days, I ended up bringing it in, as it saved me the hassle of having to deal with potential trade-in processing issues (I’ve heard enough horror stories about Phobio). If at all possible, I’d love to do the same this time.

Yes, when you buy the iPhone in the Apple retail store that is a different type of transaction than when preordering or ordering online, and there is more flexibility in dealing with an Apple retail store in person.
Thanks for the clarification. Do you think if I opt for the store pickup option, instead of having it delivered to my home, I’ll be able to have the trade-in processed at the store?

Not sure, but I doubt it. Online ordering (even with in-store pickup) and in-store purchasing are two different types of transactions and are handled differently. I have always just gone to the store when I was ready to purchase my new iPhone and was ready with the older one to trade in on the spot.

Ugh…I guess I’ll have to take a chance with sending it in.

Although I haven't had the chance to stop by my local Apple store yet, I can confirm that the trade-in can indeed be completed by taking your device to the Apple store, instead of sending it in. After I did my pre-order setup through the app, I received a confirmation e-mail, stating that the trade-in can be either sent in, or brought to an Apple store.
