In the last week and a half or so my Apple Watch series 9 is consistently recording me having climbed hundreds of stairs a day, despite me having definitely not done so!

There is nothing obvious in the speaker grill and I have tried entering and exiting swim mode a few times to see if this helps clear anything.

I have also updated to the developer beta of Watch OS 27 to see if that would help in case of a bug in Watch OS 26, but still no luck.

Anyone got any idea how to fix this?

Many thanks.

Not sure about this particular issue but when my watch acts up I just unpair it from my iPhone and then restore. It doesn’t take long and seems to resolve most problems.

I have an occasional issue when doing a workout that the watch starts thinking that I am at elevation 0 (e.g. at sea level) and then re-corrects the elevation. My house is at 1350 feet, so quite often my runs look like huge elevation gainers.

I don't think that there is anything that you can do about it, short of an after-the-fact opening the Health app, opening the Flights climbed setting, scrolling down and tapping "Show All Data", tapping the date that there was bad data, and deleting any of the readings that are clearly wrong.

Basically I don't pay all that much attention to that stat.

Crazy enough, I wandered into the forums to ask if anyone was experiencing this same issue. Apple Watch Series 7 running 26.5. I've been seeing it for a few weeks only on days that I come into the office, I average 60-90 flights climbed. I work on the 4th floor and take an elevator about 75% of the time. Days that I'm at home, it seems to register correctly (anywhere between a reasonable average... maybe 10-20 total).

For example, I climbed maybe 3-4 flights today in my home before leaving. I've been at the office since 8am and took the elevator this morning. My watch is currently reading that I have climbed 48 flights.

Think I'm going to take @onenorth's advice and unpair/restore. Something is clearly wrong. I'll report back in a week or so.
