On my Ultra, when I lift my wrist for using my compass, or for timing an event, the display goes dim after 15 seconds or so - very aggravating. The only way I've found to keep it bright is to keep rotating the dial toward me (a brief turn every couple of seconds). When I'm using my Ultra for these events, I'm not concerned with battery longevity, I'm only concerned with what I'm doing at the time. Is there a non-invasive way to keep the brightness at a high level until I lower my wrist?

Under display and brightness you can increase time to 70secs as mentioned above.

Also under general return to clock you can increase time by app to 1 hour.

Don’t know if either of these settings will help you.

Thanks! I followed your 70 second suggestion. Now it displays for 70 seconds after lifting my wrist, but only if I tap on the watch face or briefly swipe the crown toward me. Otherwise it dims after about 7 seconds.

Yes, very annoying. Noticed it on my Series 8 as well. If I remember correctly, it used to be bright for about 15 seconds or so before watchOS 9 (I used a Series 4 until recently). Now, it's only 5-7 seconds after raising my wrist.
Hopefully Apple will change this again, or maybe provide a setting to choose between various times for the display to stay awake. Just like we have a setting for it to stay bright for 15 or 70 seconds after tapping the screen.
