Thousands of them are going on across the country today. Haven't seen much here about them. Curious about the community's opinions. Is there one going on where you live? How many people are there? Is this a giant waste of time?

As I understand it... this is what the protests are all about:

The question is, what are they protesting? Judging from the signs in that picture their either protesting non-existent things or out of ignorance.

More wacky "conservatives" who have nothing else to do. As soon as I see or hear "socialism" these days, I cease to listen.

I don't know what's going on in terms of the popularity of these protests, but from what I saw of the election campaign both Republicans and Democrats were poised to provide bailouts...

This protest is as much political posturing as it is protest. Where are the signs that say "Make Wall St. accountable!"?

Also in a slightly more humorous note I'd like to point out that the lady with the 'work ethic' sign did not bother to cut out holes in some of the letters, but did in others. :D

So you don't want to discuss the merits of the protest, only the number of idiots participating?

My boss's wife is singing at one of the gatherings here in the area today. I am still confused about what they are protesting. Obama is not a socialist. If he was we would be on our way to having a free and universal health care system. As far as the taxes, in my tax bracket I will actually be getting that tax refund (i.e. less will start coming out of my checks). The ironic thing is that the conservatives I know who are most against higher taxes are pro-war, and the fact of the matter is that it is the war in Iraq that has cost so much money (not even beginning to talk about the human cost) that the government didn't have to begin with. This money has to come from somewhere, why not from the wealthy conservatives who supported the war from the beginning (because it would only help them get wealthier).

Sooo... you guys don't know what their protesting, but you're sure they're protesting out of ignorance, for no reason... and you also refuse to listen because those wackos use the word 'socialism.'

    Very enlightening.

I hope these same groups were just as visible while Bush and Co. were shredding the constitution.

Only the homophobic Republicans would stage rallies for Dick's Army and teabagging. These are nothing more than a FOX News wet dream.

What good does debating with someone who doesn't even understand the topic do?

Just saw the picture with Obama and the caption "Thief?". If my goal wasn't to play nice in the community I would go to tonight's gathering with a sign showing Bush with the caption "Murderer?". I guess a president can lie to garner support for war, can torture humans, can deny rights to American citizens; however, the moment they talk about rising the tax rates back to where they were pre-Reagan than we better stop and begin to question our government.

I wasn't alive when Reagan was president, so correct me if I am wrong. Reaganomics didn't work?

Exactly- because they're already coming from a dishonest place.

And again- where were these people when Bush did it? This has less to do with policy and more to do with their dislike for Obama.

There was a tea party near me but the DNR said they couldn't throw tea into the river so they threw... water... into the river...

First time I've heard about this....I haven't see anyone out here where I live. Is it still a party if no one shows up?

Makes you wonder where they were for the past 8 years?

The was an old guy in my town who did that every day. Poured office cooler sized bottles of tap water into the river. He's now been sectioned...

    More power to them!

If only more people would join in then perhaps we might turn this trainwreck of the past forty to fifty years around.

I hope more states start acting like Texas and declaring their disgust with Washington.

All this is about is protesting high taxes. I know a forum full of liberals wouldn't understand this but that is the point of the Tea Parties (Boston Tea Party).

They are simply protesting for what our founding fathers stood for. Low taxes, and small government. You know the entire reason why we formed our own nation back a few hundred years ago.

I have a hard time with the folks who ran our government for the last eight years all of a sudden waking up to bad deficit spending and small government. Give me a friggin' break.

Then they should talk about high taxes, not "socialism". Maybe people would listen. Right now they look stupid. And they didn't mind when Bush spent us into oblivion, did they? Ya know, the reason taxes are higher now in the first place.

Maybe you my friend need to go back and take a history class or two. The idea of the Boston Tea Party was because the colonists were being taxed without representation from their elected officials. Obama, even if there are things about him that I question, was fairly elected. What gets me here is not people protesting against government, but their ignorance in calling Obama a socialist and a thief.

Actually I do believe the catch-phrase for the Boston Tea party was "No taxation without representation." it did not necessarily have to do with high taxes, but gaining an equal representation (benefit) from those taxes.

All this great Canadian education makes you pick up a lot of useful info eh?
