I'm looking to get my grandpa an iPhone 7. He has MetroPCS as a carrier and I've been looking at A1660 models since these are the ones that are unlocked, however a seller on eBay states theirs is tied to "Straight Talk." What does this mean? Does it mean it can only work on a "Straight Talk" company phone plan? Or are all iPhone 7 A1160 models indeed unlocked and ready to work on any carrier?

For iPhones, assume it's locked to a carrier unless it specifically states SIM-free/unlocked.

Iirc, StraightTalk is a Tracfone brand and they're very strict with their unlock policy. I'm not sure about StraightTalk but regular Tracfone requires more than 12 months active servce before they'll unlock.

I think it means it still on contract- I would stay away.

How soon do you need one? I plan on selling mine once the 12 comes out.

I got this from Apple 3 weeks ago as a replacement unit so battery is at 100% and mint condition, using it in a case with screen protector. iPhone 7, black, 256gb. Unlocked.

My grandpa arrives on Sunday and was hoping to have it ready at the airport. With current shipping estimates however I think early next week is when I'll have the phone ready. He definitely doesn't need 256gb.

32gb models are prevalent on eBay, and although that would suffice for him, I think I wanna get him 128gb so he'll never have to worry about filming long videos and photos.

A1660 is simply the model number. Whether or not it's locked depends on how it was purchased.

Limit your search to specify unlocked or Verizon. Verizon didn't use to lock their LTE iPhones and even now, thy automatically unlock after 60 days.

Good choice on the 128GB. iOS has gotten sufficiently heavy with ~10+ GB often consumed by System+Others that 32GB could be very limiting.

Straightalk is 12 months too. I can speak from personal experience.
