Are Apple planning to release a new 4" iPhone in the near future, or maybe even an updated 5s with NFC and a few more upgrades.

I currently have an iPhone 6 which is generally a better phone than the 5s but i don't like the size of it, it is too big. I keep finding myself going back to the 5s as i just like the size better, its just easier and more comfortable to handle, especially when out and about walking and running and doing various activities, and it is more pocket friendly as well.

But the 5s is a bit outdated now so it could do with being updated or replaced with a newer model.

That's a good question. There are rumors of a 4" iPhone, but no one is certain if we will see one. I think we will see a 4" option for the iPhone 7, but that's just my guess.

I hope there is another 4" version in the pipeline, even if we have to wait for the 7, because if there isn't i am going to be using the 5s for a long time to come, or will have to switch brands and i don't want to have to do that.

If you switch "brands" what are you switching to?? Does anyone release 4" phones anymore? Even the mini versions of other companies flagships weren't 4".

I understand the if you don't want it don't get it mantra... I don't understand why some people are stuck on this 4" stuff. Stuff evolves even the iPhone ... So has all the androids

I don't see Apple ever going back to smaller phones. Their main competition which is Android primarily consists of large phones. Apple are very unlikely to go back to smaller phones. Plus I think the newer iOS versions are all in all likely hood optimised and designed for larger phones so they may have to overhaul iOS if they were to go back to smaller phones. That last part is just a guess on my part.

I doubt Apple will produce another 4" iPhone anytime soon unless there's a great demand for it. Why do you think your 5s is outdated? It's still a very capable phone.

there is plenty room for 4.3 screen within 5s frame. that would be perfect update.

Apple should have upgrade the 5s too. I know people that are not adjusting to iPhone 6 just because of size. Apple should sell iPhone sizes from 4" to 6" or at least from 5" to 6", form factor doesn't matter can be like iPhone 6th generation.

Sure hope they release a smaller phone. 5S was the biggest I wanted to deal with.

Yes it is a very capable phone, but it is over 2 years old now so definitely could do with updating at least with NFC if nothing else. They are really starting to push Apple pay here in the UK, so it would be better if all their phones were capable of using it. Up until a couple of weeks ago there was only 1 years of production capable of using Apple pay and that was the 6, obviously now there is the 6s but that has only just come out. If Apple had put NFC in from the 5 onwards like they should have done, they would have another 350 million capable phone out there, so would have a lot more people using the service.

I wouldn't think that Apple would go backwards in design making another updated 5S model, if they did bring out a smaller screened handset which I think is unlikely (because we have now had 2 generations of iPhone without the option of a small screen) then it would probably be based on the design of the larger models in production? Just a thought.... But what do I know lol

i know people too. 1 person. there are probably, like, 0.05% of all the people who religiously refrain from going bigger, i doubt apple cares.

I don't see it as the market doesn't demand smaller phones anymore.

I'm curious as to what you think you'll switch to if they don't. No manufacturer makes a 4" flagship device anymore so the 5s is probably the best phone on the market at that size.

I haven't looked at options yet, i have no intention of leaving Apple at the moment and will be sticking with the 5s for now. If i ever do think of leaving it will be in at least a years time, as i will wait to see what the 7 brings.

I'd think if it is ever going to happen it will happen when the 7 is released. They'll keep milking the 5S for that form factor til then...

What people don't seem to realise is, and I've said this before, is that the new features like the Taptic Engine take up space, so does 3D Touch supposedly, so does the massive battery that everybody still moans about not lasting long enough. But still... people expect to get A9 power, 6 series features and 2 day battery life from the shell of a 5S.

Of course none of us have any way of knowing, but I doubt that they will make another 4" phone. The market has moved away from smaller phones. Even 4.7" is smaller than every other flagship device.

Again the question is what are you going to switch to? Unless you choose a entry level phone for the most part all android and Windows phones are 4.5" and above.

My question is when the iPhone 7 isn't released in a 4" variant what else is there. The 4.7"'iPhone 6 and 6s is already one of the smaller flagship phones in regards to screen size

Sorry i don't know as i said i haven't looked into different options yet, i will wait and see what happens, the 7 won't be release for almost another year, so will worry about it then if no 4" appears, but there are rumours of a 6c on the cards.

I don't think any of the things you've mentioned have been ask for on this thread yet, i only asked for NFC. I don't recall anyone asking for 3D touch, A9, Taptic Engine or 2 day battery life, although some of them may be welcome.
