 I don't know what the deal is with this holiday, I remember you couldn't eat meat or whatever, but some people are saying places close down. Do bars usually stay open?

Why would they be closed? The day is called, "Good Friday." A time to celebrate and be merry. :D As far as I know, bars and clubs are open here as normal. In fact, the bars and clubs don't shut down for any holiday...Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. They are always open for business (at least most of them). :)

I was in Dublin this time last year - all bars and clubs closed except for those serving food.

Most places stay open on good Friday.

A lot of schools choose not to give this day off from class.
