Normally I read initial impressions from forums and the media and if there aren't any major bugs in Apple's latest OS, update right away. But High Sierra brings with it a whole new file system and that worries me. Apparently some people experienced data loss on their iPhones when transitioning from iOS 9 to 10, so this time around I'm going to wait and see. And whenever I do get around to updating, I'm going to backup my entire drive first and then clean install High Sierra.

What are your plans when Apple ships High Sierra in a couple of months?

I always wait for the first patch. Apples software of late has left much to be desired in terms of quality...

I don't have a 12"er, but I'm waiting...

Absolutely not. I just purchased a rMB a few days ago to ensure I made the purchase before the HS update given if I wait too long then I'm stuck with a fresh OS. Reliability, stability, and consistency are the traits I prioritize over everything else. I'll update to High Sierra likely mid-late 2018, maybe early 2019. Even when I do, I will probably stay with HFS+ for at least another year. I just moved my MBP to Sierra. I need to use my High Sierra VM for another 5+ months at a bare minimum before being confident enough to start thinking about the transfer.

My usual method is only to upgrade the OS on my MacBook (it is my main computer) when I am 100% confident that all the apps, hardware and everything else I use actually work properly on the new version.

I got bitten once before when a Mac OSX upgrade killed compatibility with my expensive photo printer. Never again!

All my documents and media are in the cloud, and accessible on other platforms, so my 2015 MacBook is on the High Sierra Beta. No issues with the change to the new file system. I haven’t pushed the computer yet, but haven’t noticed anything, either way.

Most definitely will upgrade right away. Problem is Sierra has zero support for some pretty important features like HEVC and HEIF.

I've already tested my must-have software in High Sierra and it works fine. Testing was done on an external drive.
