    Hey guys,

I am thinking of buying a new iMac, but I want it to be really cool and quiet.

Can it be true that the high capacity harddrives in iMacs, 750GB and 1TB, make more sound and run hotter resulting in higher temps of the whole system en failures?
If it is true, I will buy an iMac with a basic 500GB hdd.

Can anybody post his ideas on this subject?!

    The general guidelines are:
Try to avoid 4 or even 3-platter drives for very low noise.
The same goes for temps as well. In a 4-platter drive, the motor is doing twice the effort to a 2-platter one... thus more heat.

Then, there is the construction of a given device.
Try to google as much as you can if you're interested on some specific model.

In my experience, apple always try to put some quiet drives in those machines...

I have a 1TB drive in my 24" iMac and never hear it running.

I can't say much for temps though because I don't have anything to compare it to.
