It all starts with a video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPY3BIsVQq8

The video shows a woman, who is given the floor, begins to expose corruption of many of the city Councillors. They attempt to re-take the floor with a motion they do not have the right to start. All the while, the mayor attempts to keep them quiet and keep the police from arresting her, as it is his meeting to conduct and he is attempting to preserve her right to speak.

The woman is eventually arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. more here

The mayor was ousted and the chief of police took control of the city. Officers who spoke out against him have been placed under house arrest. more here

The chief is currently under investigation.

The whole thing is such a travesty and miscarriage of justice that it sickens me.

I think they have a ways to go before they catch up to us in SC...

But they've definitely been invited to the table.

This whole thing is insane. Isn't there something in the law that take care of this? I mean, the sheriff took over the town. How the hell is that OK?

How did the mayor get ousted? He was on the side of the good guys it seems. Who had the power to oust him?

Articles aren't the clearest, but I'm guessing it was a vote of no confidence which would have been collusion between the council and police chief.

If the city council was smart they should of just let the lady finish. They could of swept it under the rug but instead they forced the issue and blasted it to the national spot light because now there will be some real digging into those people and all of it will be exposed and then some.
But then against corrupt people are not exactly very smart.
